Research Consultant

RDFL is seeking a research consultant to conduct a research paper on the increase of child marriage cases during the crisis in Lebanon.

Background:

The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering (RDFL) is a feminist, secular, non-governmental organization advocating for and raising awareness about the rights of women and girls in Lebanon. Founded in 1976, the RDFL is one of the oldest feminist organizations, one based on volunteerism.

RDFL’s vision is to achieve equality between women and men in all spheres and to provide protection from gender-based violence.

RDFL’s mission is to work on and advocate for the elimination of gender-based violence and all forms of discrimination, and to achieve full citizenship for women through a widespread and empowered membership and in collaboration with civil society. 

 The main objective of this research paper is to push toward the passage of setting the age of marriage law in Lebanon.

Scope of work:

This research paper will focus on the increase in child marriage in Lebanon starting the crisis in 2019 till now.

 Responsibilities:

• Developing the specified research for RDFL.
• Select appropriate data and literary sources for research purposes.
• Designing questionnaires and research sub-tasks.
• Conducting experiments, survey sessions, and data collection.
• Analyzing and organizing gathered information.
• Managing and overseeing research done by other researchers.
• Drafting and finalizing research reports for presentation.
• Identifying key areas of concern and areas of improvement in research design and implementation.
• Discuss findings with other researchers and members of the organization. 

Outputs:

The Consultant will have to develop and submit a research paper on the impact of the economical and sociological crisis on child marriage in Lebanon. The research paper should cover the following:

1. Overview of child marriage and related issues in Lebanon.
2. Identify the implications of the crisis on child marriage rates, prevention and response.
3. Identify any documented changes or trends in child marriage since the crisis started.
4. Identify contributing factors to changes in the rates of child marriage during the crisis.
5. Identify good practices in child marriage programming during the crisis.

Questions:

The following questions are expected to be answered within this brief:

1. What is the evidence of increasing or decreasing child marriage rates due to the crisis?
2. What are the factors contributing to increasing or decreasing cases of child marriage during the crisis?
3. What are the adaptive strategies for child marriage programming during the crisis?
4. What services related to prevention of and response to child marriage existed in Lebanon and how has the crisis affected the availability of and accessibility to these services?
5. What are the emerging good practices in providing a response to child marriage during the crisis?

Requirements:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree of research specialization.
• Three years of experience as a researcher or study leader.
• Demonstrable research skills such as data analytics, statistics, or survey design.
• Impeccable writing and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in research design, research report writing, and source analysis.
• Thorough knowledge of research procedures and best practices.
• Team-working and communication skills.
• Ability to conduct research independently.
• Knowledge of research and experimental techniques for gathering both qualitative and quantitative data.
• History of published articles, studies, or research work.
