Survivor-Led Theater Trainer

  1. Background

Through its UN Trust Fund-supported program, RDFL is centering survivors’ leadership in advocacy to challenge harmful social norms and promote gender justice across Lebanon. Theater is a cornerstone of this strategy, enabling survivors to express their experiences through participatory performance and spark community dialogue.
This activity is implemented in Mount Lebanon and Bekaa, with a special focus on women and girls who have survived or are at risk of GBV—including those living with disabilities and experiencing displacement.

2. Objective of the Assignment

To design and lead drama-based empowerment workshops that help GBV survivors transform personal narratives into theater productions for mobile advocacy campaigns, fostering healing, dialogue, and behavior change at the community level.

3.  Key Responsibilities

3.1 Planning and Preparation

• Develop inclusive theater-based learning modules based on survivor stories
• Design session plans using applied theater tools (forum, playback, role-play)
• Collaborate with storytelling trainers and GBV focal points to ensure cultural relevance

3.2 Facilitation

• Conduct 12 theater sessions (6 per location) that build survivors’ advocacy and performance capacities
• Promote active participation, peer support, and non-judgmental expression
• Prepare survivors for community performances and public engagement

3.3 Reporting and Coordination

• Maintain detailed session records, survivor feedback, and safety observations
• Submit rehearsal progress and pre-performance readiness assessments
• Flag psychosocial risks and coordinate with RDFL’s PSS team as needed

4. Qualification

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in applied theater, drama therapy, or social impact performance
  • Proven track record of facilitating participatory arts with vulnerable populations (e.g., GBV survivors, refugees, persons with disabilities)
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and survivor-centered methodologies in group settings
  • Arabic fluency required; additional languages such as Kurdish or Syrian dialects are an asset
  • Ability to create inclusive learning environments, adapt tools for low-literacy participants, and integrate gender-transformative approaches
  • Prior work in humanitarian or development sectors preferred; familiarity with the Bekaa and Mount Lebanon contexts a plus
