Conservation Specialist

I. INTRODUCTION

Project Background Information

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). LRI's mission is to restore Lebanon's native forests and to instill commitment to reforestation and wildfire prevention and response, through capacity building of local communities and organizations.

The project is operated by LRI’s offices in Jdeideh, but the position is located in Anjar. 

II. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

In partnership with Houch Moussa-Anjar Municipality, LRI seeks a Conservation Specialist in Anjar area to make sure that the planned programs are implemented, and environmental areas are well conserved.  

The Conservation Specialist is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Manage all project activities related to the park;
  • Set with the park team and the municipality a conservation strategy for the park and ensure activities done fit within the strategy;
  • Set general conservation guidelines and guidance for visitors related to conservation and ensure its implementation;
  • Follow up with the team of rangers on project implementation and regular maintenance activities required;
  • Report on the damaged assets of the Park;
  • Support the Park Manager, the Awareness & Education Specialist and the Planting Specialist in fauna and flora conservation, historical site preservation, and agricultural projects, as necessary;
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with local people, staff and experts in fauna and flora conservation;
  • Help in seeking funds and setting project ideas for funding;
  • Support in guiding groups and giving park tours; and
  • Support park team in different technical activities as needed.

III. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS 

The Conservation Specialist should fit the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5 years working in environmental conservation projects;
  • Physically fit and able to conduct hard adventure activities;
  • Self-motivated individual with genuine interest in environmental conservation;
  • Good understanding of the environment and history of the park;
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a big number of people;
  • Good communication skills; 
  • Good management skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Positive attitude toward the team;
  • Self-reliant; and
  • English, Arabic and Armenian are a must. French is a plus.
