I. INTRODUCTION
Project Background Information
The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). LRI's mission is to restore Lebanon's native forests and to instill commitment to reforestation and wildfire prevention and response, through capacity building of local communities and organizations.
The project is operated by LRI’s offices in Jdeideh, but the position is located in Anjar.
II. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
In partnership with Houch Moussa-Anjar Municipality, LRI seeks an Environmental Awareness & Education Specialist in Anjar area to develop, coordinate, and deliver relevant and rigorous environmental education programs to youth, community groups and visitors of the Anjar Eco-Park.
The Environmental Awareness & Education Specialist is expected to perform the following duties:
- Plan, develop, and conduct programs to inform the public of historical, natural and scientific features of Anjar Eco-Park;
- Plan and organize public events at the park;
- Provide visitor services, such as explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas;
- Conduct field trips to point out scientific, historic, and natural features of park;
- Develop team building activities for corporate groups;Develop environmental educational programs and curricula for schools; and
- Supervise, train and mentor park rangers and seasonal staff, summer interns, and volunteers at varying times to be able to deliver themselves environmental awareness and education activities.
III. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
The Environmental Awareness & Education Specialist should fit the following criteria:
- At least 5 years of experience in providing environmental awareness and education campaigns;
- Deep understanding of environmental issues and topics, and good knowledge in environmental conservation;
- Experience in planning and developing agenda and programs for awareness campaigns and educational programs;
- Deep knowledge of Anjar’s natural, cultural and historical features;
- Willingness to work with diverse groups of people and to mentor others;
- Good communication skills;
- Good management skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Positive attitude toward the team;
- Self-reliant;
- Good supervision and mentoring skills;
- Good level of physical fitness; and
- English, Arabic and Armenian are a must. French is a plus.
