Outplanting Component Assistant
I. INTRODUCTION
Project Background Information
The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the United States Forest Service (USFS) that provides technical assistance and institutional support for sustainable native tree reforestation and wildfire management. With administrative offices in Beirut, LRI technical experts manage a multi-year work program of activities throughout Lebanon in collaboration with grassroots organizations and local communities.
LRI Outplanting Component
The outplanting component of the project leads on the selection of sites for reforestation, setting agreements with local municipalities, managing and supervising implementation of planting activities, training and hiring local workers for the implementation, and following up on irrigation and maintenance. LRI has planted so far more than 560,000 seedlings with an average survival rate of ~80%.
II. PURPOSE OF THE JOB
LRI seeks a full-time assistant for the outplanting component to work together with LRI Reforestation technical supervisor and other LRI staff to:
- Develop agreements with municipalities and partners for new reforestation sites
- Develop planting plans and coordinate planting activities for new sites
- Coordinate with LRI’s nursery component and CNTPL on seedling orders and deliveries
- Keep clear records and document all outplanting activities conducted in the field
- Update continuously LRI’s database with information for new sites
- Organize trainings and activities related to the outplanting component
- Coordinate with other components on cross-cutting activities
- Assist LRI’s Reforestation Technical Supervisor in daily reporting and record keeping and in processing workers payments for sites.
- Coordinate the implementation of LRI workplan tasks related to outplanting
- Coordinate regular partners technical meetings to share expertise and knowledge
- Coordinate site surveys and monitoring of seedling survival
III. EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
In close coordination with the LRI’s Project Director and LRI’s Reforestation Technical Supervisor, the outplanting component assistant will:
- Database updated at all times with all information related to the component
- Workers sheets and payment forms for outplanting activities
- Signed agreements with municipalities and partners
- Yearly monitoring report
- Field visit reports, training reports, site maps and other documentation of outplanting activities
IV. REQUIREMENTS
The outplanting component assistant should possess the following competencies, skills, and experience:
• BA or BS preferably in Agricultural Engineering, Plant Sciences or any related field
At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in the field of agriculture and administrative/organizational procedures
Basic knowledge in GIS and mapping
Strong analytical and inter-personal skills;
Excellent reporting and presentation skills;
Willingness to travel outside Beirut to the sites if needed;
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic;
Advanced computer literacy
