Lebanon Reforestation Initiative Terms of Reference Call for Surveyors   I. INTRODUCTION Project Background Information   The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014 and had started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).   The LRI/USFS provides support to Lebanese governmental and nongovernmental organizations through exchanges and technical assistance in cooperation with the USAID Mission in Lebanon. The LRI/USFS collaborates with Lebanese partners on natural resource management issues in order to strengthen forest management and biodiversity conservation. In 2010, the USFS began the LRI, a large project to enhance reforestation by increasing technical capacities related to seedling development, planting site selection, forest cover mapping, and long-term community reforestation goals. In 2015, LRI started a second phase building on the impact of phase 1 to promote social stability, watershed protection and rural economic development.     LRI has undertaken several activities toward the creation of a potential reforestation sites map. The base of this map is derived from the Lebanon Landcover map extracting convenient classes from the classification system. In order to validate the derived map, LRI is looking for surveyors to visit the target sites and fill a survey assessing the suitability of the land for reforestation. additionally, the surveyors will be asked to conducted an interview with a representative of the local authority to inquire about the ownership of the lands and its land use.   II. Work conducted so Far: Out of the 1643 cadastral areas in Lebanon and the 1005 municipalities LRI has already surveyed 31 municipalities/cadasters mainly present within the extension of 2 Social and environmental corridors managed by LRI and located in Bcharre and Rachaya regions.  The results of the survey are uploaded to LRI webmapping platform. To complete the full-country survey, LRI’s plan is to conduct the surveys around its 2 established bio corridors and the Shouf reserve region by visiting a list of municipalities/cadaster classified as priority 1. III. Requirements: To be considered for selection, applicants should fit the following requirements: -          Basic English proficiency -          Basic computer literacy, good internet and phone application use proficiency -          Should possess a car and a valid driving license, and are willing to drive alone to different regions of assignment -          Preferably based in one of the regions of interest: North, Rachaya or Chouf regions, and willing to report periodically to the Hazmieh office -          Good physical condition, willing to hike and work in hard site conditions -          Good communication skills Applications that do not fit the above requirements will be directly discarded. IV. Training : Applicants will attend a training on the usage of PDA and ArcGIS Online and will be briefed about the form that should be filled with the local authority representative. Applicants should be ready to attend the training in Hazmieh on the 17th of March 2017. V.
