GIS Mapping Specialist

Legal Action (LA) is a Lebanese non-profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers focused on identifying creative avenues for accessing justice for those who are experiencing protracted violations of their human rights. LA is funded by Legal Action Worldwide (LAW), an independent and unique non-profit network and think tank of lawyers who provide creative legal assistance in fragile and conflict-affected areas.

BRIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT

“Dealing with the Past – DWP” project, funded by UN Women, focuses on women victims and survivors from the civil war until the present. The project offers psychosocial support, legal assistance and avenues for storytelling to empower and enable women survivors and relatives of the disappeared to express their experiences and to address their legal and psychosocial needs.

 

 

Functions/Key Deliverables:

The GIS specialist use, run, develop, and maintain GIS systems perform an integral data-collection and analysis function that support of the research report focusing on the Lebanese civil war.

Deliverables: 

  • Provide a Lebanese base map
  • Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and data collection equipment.
  • Perform research to obtain and expand existing datasets
  • Gather and report on GIS data and determine how data sets are best utilized through GIS
  • Compile geographic and demographic data from many sources
  • Compile data for statistics to incorporate into documents and reports
  • Analyze and model relationships between geographic data sets

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor Degree in Geography, Engineering, Landscape Architecture and any other relevant degree.
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of MDC Tools such as Kobo, ODK, Survey 123, ArcGis Collector is a plus
  • Knowledge about GIS, QGis, ArcGis, Missing maps, QGIs, Open street maps, or other related tools is a strong plus
  • Previous experience in humanitarian field is a strong plus.
