LAW is an independent, non-profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers working in fragile and conflict affected areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. We have a particular focus on gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence, natural resource exploitation, rule of law and accountability, and transformative justice, working to bring justice to those who need it most.

LA’s Programme in Lebanon:
Legal Action was set up in Beirut in 2018. The organisation provides legal assistance and representation to individuals in the governorates of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, North Lebanon, Akkar and the Bekaa. Our legal aid lawyers work closely with LAW Network’s international lawyers to develop innovative legal strategies designed to increase access to justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the stateless, and other groups who have suffered human rights violations and abuses.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal
- Develop case selection criteria for the target group based on the group’s needs;
- Interview beneficiaries with accordance to the best practices, before and during the provision of legal aid;
- Conduct legal information sessions with the assistance and co-facilitation of Legal Information Officers (LIOs) for the target group and prepare their legal material priorly;
- Provide legal assistance and representation to the target group, according to LAW’s intake, eligibility, and case criteria;
- Conduct desk review and research of existing documentation, legal precedents, and jurisprudence related to the project’s legal themes, topics, and target group;
- Organise, implement, and assist with trainings on human rights, related domestic laws and other requested topics
- Organise and facilitate roundtables and meetings in relation to the project’s activities;
- Analyse, cross-reference and organise the cases’ documents into LAW’s secure centralized system (SharePoint) according to client intake criteria;
- Contribute with and review legal content and analysis to be used for advocacy and awareness campaigns and initiatives as well as LAW’s social media platforms;
- Develop monthly reports covering each month’s activities;
Management
- Supervise LIOs’ work and ensure the accuracy, quality and efficiency of the legal information provided;
- Organise regular meetings with LIOs to monitor progress and discuss observations and lessons learned;
- Supervise outreach schedules of LIOs on a weekly basis and ensure that they are carried out accordingly;
- Develop and deliver reports with accordance to LAW’s standards;
- Ensure that LIOs are planning and organizing their work so that targets can be reached within the project timeline.
Support and Administration
- Organize physical case files based on LAW’s guidelines;
- Take on any administrative, logistical or other support tasks needed to ensure the project runs smoothly or as assigned by LAW management;
- Adhere to deadlines and take on tasks proactively;
- Attend all meetings and trainings organised by LAW upon request.
Any other task assigned by the Lebanon Program Manager.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
- Qualified lawyer (Registered at Tripoli Bar Association) with minimum 5 years work experience;
- Excellent written and oral Arabic and English;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in interviewing vulnerable individuals;
- Proven knowledge and experience in working with vulnerable individuals;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in drafting and producing legal analysis and position papers and strategies;
- Have strong legal analytical skills and a good understanding of the Lebanese context and legislation as well international human rights law;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and take initiative.
