BACKGROUND
LAW is an independent, non-profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers working in fragile and conflict affected areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. LAW uses advocacy, research, legal empowerment, and strategies to bring about this change. LAW’s thematic focuses include addressing sexual and gender-based violence, accountability, natural resource exploitation/displacement, and transitional justice. LAW’s ground-breaking work has received international media coverage, including in the New York Times, the Times of London, the Guardian, Al-Jazeera, France24, Voice of America, Huffington Post and Foreign Policy.
BRIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT
LAW has an ongoing project under the name of “Dealing with the Past”, funded by UN Women, which focuses on female victims and survivors from the Lebanese Civil War until the present. The project offers psychosocial support, legal assistance, and avenues for storytelling to empower and enable female survivors and relatives of the disappeared to express their experiences and to address their legal and psychosocial needs.
As the project approaches its end, LAW’s team has found itself in dire need of psychosocial support after working on matters related to the Lebanese Civil War and direct contact with victims and survivors amid the ongoing economic, health, and political crises. Hence, LAW’s team is looking to have a two-day out of office Group Psychosocial Support to ensure the team’s mental wellbeing and team building. The Group Psychosocial Support aims to relieve the psychosocial burden which is interfering with delivering results up to the best of their abilities and to improve collective psychosocial wellbeing.
LAW is looking to hire a psychologist to facilitate a series of group wellbeing sessions of two full consecutive days. The psychologist would be in charge of preparing the sessions’ relevant material and to present/facilitate the sessions in due time.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reports to: Duration:
Lebanon Programme Manager 2 Days in November
Location:
Lebanon
Functions/Key Deliverables Expected
The Group Psychosocial Support will address psychological strategies as to how to balance between working on sensitive material and one’s daily life and how to limit the effects of working on sensitive and traumatizing topics on one’s mental wellbeing. The intended purpose aims to cater to the needs of the group which has been working since June 2020 on the context of the Lebanese Civil War, gender crimes, and enforced disappearance along with direct interactions and interviews with victims and survivors of gender crimes and enforced disappearances. It is worth noting that the work exerted by the group has left the group with a traumatizing, emotional, and stressful burden above the burden of the ongoing crises in Lebanon. The Group Psychosocial Support session will also focus on team building and communication especially after undergoing tough experiences.
The psychologist is expected to:
- Provide training delivery for full two days and in-person for a group of 16 participants;
