Coach – Poultry and Agriculture (technical and basic business planning)

The Coach – Poultry and Agriculture (technical and basic business planning) will work under the project “Employability, and soft skills program for youth in Akkar, North Lebanon”, implemented by Mada Association and funded by UNICEF.

The objective of the project is to increase access of Lebanese and Non-Lebanese youth (15-24 years) to technical and vocational training and innovative skills building programmes for improved professional readiness and employability.

 

The Coach will implement personalized sessions to 50 youth who underwent Competency Based Training and subsequently received start-up kits (Agriculture – to set up home gardens; and Poultry – including chickens and a coop) in Akkar. The coaching is aimed at scaling up and maintaining the business and coming up with a basic business plan.

Definition of the Mission

 

The coach will design and implement 4 personalized one-on-one sessions (a total of 200 for the 50 youth) based on the identified youth needs to sustain and generate income through maintaining their home gardens and chicken coops. The expected sessions are detailed below and will be conducted on field (at the youth’s  premises) in 2 villages in the Akkar plain. An interval of two weeks will be applied between the youth one-on-one sessions:

 

Session 1: Assess the needs of the youth upon receiving the Poultry and Agricultural kit and design the remaining sessions accordingly

 

Session 2: Mentoring on best practices for home gardens to maximize agricultural harvest and maintaining chickens for higher production in complex conditions; guidance on marketing the produces in the local market (winter)

The session will include specific mentoring on cost efficient ways to sustain a small farm

 

Session 3: Physical inspection and diagnosis of any abnormality (such as diseases) and provision of required support to address these issues

 

Session 4: Develop basic business plan through technical guidance aiming at maximizing production of eggs and vegetables to contribute to both household food security and income generation

 

Deliverables

  • Attendance sheets
  • Individual Youth Report for each recipient highlighting the needs and actions taken during the 4 sessions – including the basic business plan
  • Evidence through visibility (pictures before/after)
  • Summary Report with lessons learned and recommendations for the overall sessions provided

Education and knowledge required

  • Education required: Degree in Agronomy, Veterinary Sciences and/or related fields; MBA is a plus
  • Previous experience in managing farm in Akkar: poultry and small garden
  • Previous experience in designing business plan for small-scale farmers
  • Previous experience in Training
