Technical Coaches for Income-Generation Activities at Household Level – Akkar (Electrical Maintenance and Satellite Repair Services)

Background

Mada Association, in partnership with We World and with funding from ECHO, is implementing the project “Cash-plus assistance to support socio-economically vulnerable households meet their basic needs and withstand future shocks in Akkar Governorate.”

As part of this project, Mada is supporting 97 vulnerable households to launch or scale-up Income Generating Activities (IGAs) across various sectors, including livestock management, agriculture, food processing, retail shops, and technical services. The project aims to provide a holistic package of support, including in-kind grants and tailored coaching (business and technical), to help these households develop viable IGAs that can foster self-reliance and resilience, and an exit from cash assistance.

The Technical Coach will play a critical role in equipping beneficiaries with sector-specific knowledge and skills, increase their income, enabling them to ensure their IGAs are competitive, market-aligned, sustainable, and effectively build on their existing skills.

Job Summary

The Technical Coach will be responsible for providing specialized one-on-one support to beneficiaries engaged in electrical repairs and dish satellite repair services. In electrical repairs, the technical coach will train the beneficiary in solar system installation and maintenance, including sizing solar panels and batteries, wiring charge controllers and inverters, troubleshooting power output issues, and ensuring proper grounding for system efficiency and safety. In satellite installation, the technical coach will train the beneficiary on to cover dish alignment, receiver configuration, troubleshooting signal issues, and weatherproofing.

The areas of training are not limited to the above and will be adapted based on the specific needs identified by the coach for each beneficiary, aiming to improve their technical skills and enhance their income generation

The coaches will work closely with household focal points to deliver personalized coaching sessions that focus on:

  • Developing core technical skills related to electrical maintenance and satellite repair services.
  • Creating and strengthening operational processes to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Providing practical solutions to overcome challenges and ensure the sustainability of IGAs.
  • Supporting beneficiaries in aligning their activities with market demand and trends to enhance competitiveness.

The coaching program will consist of 3 one-on-one sessions per household for two households, conducted at the households' locations in Jabal Akroum - Akkar. Each session will last approximately 3 to 4 hours, and the entire coaching program for all households must be completed within a maximum duration of one month.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • The Technical Coach – Electrical Maintenance and Satellite Repair Services will: Assess and evaluate each household’s IGA resources (e.g., assets, tools, skills) and identify areas for improvement.

Provide 3 one-on-one coaching sessions per household for two households based on their specific technical needs, focusing on: Diagnostics and repairs of electrical systems and dish satellites

  1. Help beneficiaries acquire practical technical skills to enhance productivity, quality, and market competitiveness.
  2. Coach beneficiaries on the best usage and maintenance of material and/or equipment provided by the project.
  • Monitor progress during coaching sessions, addressing challenges and proposing solutions.

Deliverables

The Technical Coach is expected to provide biweekly progress reports summarizing coaching activities, challenges faced and recommendations for further support.

In addition, the Technical Coach is expected to deliver a final report addressing the following deliverables:

  1. IGA Technical Assessment Report: Summary of each household’s IGA technical status, and improvement areas.
  2. Household Summary and Technical Recommendations report: Summary of coaching sessions, progress made, lessons learned, and practical technical recommendations to scale up IGAs and ensure sustainability.
  3. Attendance Sheets: Documented participation for all coaching sessions.
  4. Evidence of Implementation: Photos demonstrating progress of the coaching sessions.

Qualifications

  • Specialization or degree relevant to the technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Telecommunications, or any related field.
  • Proven hands-on experience in electrical repairs, solar energy systems, or satellite dish installation.
  • Proven experience in coaching or training.
  • Proven expertise in supporting small businesses or IGAs, particularly in vulnerable/rural contexts.
  • Familiarity with Akkar local markets and market dynamics (shown in CV).
  • Previous experience working with NGOs on similar or relevant missions is preferred.
  • Ability to provide practical, actionable advice tailored to diverse IGAs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills to engage with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to submit reports in English.

  • A financial proposal in USD per session, for a total of 6 sessions, covering all deliverables and transportation costs to Jabal Akroum. The proposal should cover a total of 6 sessions – 3 sessions per household, for a total of two households/IGAs.

The average fee per session ranges from 90 to 110 USD.

 Notes:

  • Mada reserves the right to adjust the number of sessions, either increasing or decreasing them as necessary, while maintaining the same price per session as specified in the applicant's financial offer.
  • Mada is currently in the process of identifying additional beneficiaries for the second phase of the project who may require technical coaching in Machta Hammoud and Wadi Khaled. Therefore, Mada might offer the selected Technical Coaches of the first phase, those who meet the requirements and express their interest, to be renewed for the second phase. Their availability for the second phase, will be taken into consideration during selection. The sessions will be conducted at the same unit rate proposed by the coach in their offer for the first phase.
