Background:
Mada is recruiting an Assistant Coordinator for Data Collection in the frame of project “Producers, Consumers and Civil Society for Greater Food Sovereignty in Lebanon” led by Mada in partnership with Dikken Coop and Nation Station. The Assistant Coordinator will have to work in Majed el Meouch, Chouf area and therefore be based in its surroundings. The mission will require mostly data collection from farmers and data entry. The Assistant Coordinator will work closely with Mada, an Agri-Business Consultant hired under the project, and partner NGO Jibal.
With the goal to contribute to food sovereignty in Lebanon through an alternative, sustainable model, the project has three mutually reinforcing outcomes: (1) Small-scale farmers generate a fair income and vulnerable communities’ access locally produced, healthy food; (2) Linkages and fair interactions among value chain actors are strengthened; (3) Civil society groups (Dikken and Nation Station) working on alternative foods systems are able to remain operational and develop.
The Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for data collection in the Chouf Area, working under the supervision of the Mada Program Manager, and in close coordination with an Agri-Business Consultant working to determine farm gate and market values of specific products by farmers shifting to sustainable agriculture.
Purpose of the Mission
The Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for collecting and compiling data related to production and marketing costs, following a pre-defined template, and reporting back to Mada and the Agri-Business Consultant hired under the project. The mission will take place over 3 months, until April 2023.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Visiting farmers in the Chouf area on a regular basis, and as requested by Mada.
- Collecting and compiling data using a provided template/tool.
- Collecting the wholesale market prices for selected products on a weekly basis.
Main Deliverable: The compiled data following the provided template.
Education and knowledge required:
- A Bachelor’s degree (can be ongoing) in Agriculture Engineering, Agri-Business, or relevant fields.
- Proven experience in agriculture, development, research, data collection, data science, or relevant fields
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Meticulousness and attention to details
- Proficient with Microsoft tools: Microsoft Excel and Word
- Fluency in English and Arabic
