Nurse In Charge ( Makassed General Hospital )

Supervisory Responsibilities/Administrative:

  1. Coordinate and direct the daily patient care operations of the unit based on the Nursing Process
  2.  Prepare Department’s annual budget
  3. Review and assess department’s need for additional resources (unit-specific equipment, stationary) and provide recommendation to the Nursing supervisor
  4. Maintain clear communications with the nursing supervisor regarding unit needs and/or incidents.
  5. Coordinate services with other patient care units as required;
  6. Maintain communication with other departments and services namely admitting office and maintain liaison as appropriate.
  7. Supervise employees during assigned shift.
  8. Manage ‘resources’ economically and efficiently
  9. Monitor equipment maintenance and contact medical maintenance department in case of any malfunction/emergency
  10. Troubleshoot and appropriately attend to problematic issues on assigned units.
  11. Conduct unit meetings, and participate in taskforces or committees when needed
  12. Perform additional related duties as requested by Nurse Supervisor

 

Sustained control of Quality Patient Care:

  1. Analyze workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
  2. Serve as a resource and role model for employee on the unit.
  3. Assume the responsibility for patient care as needed.
  4. Identify appropriate internal controls for department; provide mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
  5. Participate and perform quality improvement activities related to unit of practice.
  6. Contribute to Multi Disciplinary Team discussions regarding patient assessment and treatment to ensure the attainment of care outcomes.
  7. Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  8. Respond quickly and promptly to patient or family requests or concerns.
  9. Seek service excellence in all related job aspects.

 

Performance Management & Nurses Development

  1. Assist in the preparation for Accreditation and ISO surveys, in coordination with the nursing supervisors and nursing quality team
  2. Assess staff competencies and make patient care assignments accordingly
  3. Delegate appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards
  4. Oversee preceptor ship activities during assigned shift.
  5. Establish and maintain supervision, appraisal and support systems to ensure staff morale, career development and standards of performance are maintained.
  6. Actively facilitate and maintain an environment conducive to learning and professional development for self and others.
  7. Assume responsibility for meeting required mandatory education, e.g., fir, safety, infection control and others.
  8. Conduct Annual Performance Appraisal for Nurses under her/his authority in collaboration with the Nurse Supervisor
  9. Report the need for  administrative actions (Promotion, Bonus, Disciplinary, etc.) and developmental actions in light of the assessment (Training, Coaching, On-the-Job Training, educational needs, in service development programs to meet needs, training on new equipment & technologies, etc.) in coordination with the nursing supervisor.

Staffing:

Manage the schedules of the Nursing Teams in a way that ensures availability of needed resources for a  sustained quality patient care and manage all related administrative affairs (Shift schedules, Reassign team duties, monitor nurse daily attendance including on week-ends and holidays, sick leaves, calls for absence, overtime, and nurses skills mix) in coordination with the Nurse supervisor.
