Arabic Language And Reading Experts

Project Summary:   MSI is a key partner in the Improved Basic Education Services Project (IBESP), which is led by World Learning. IBESP will run from September 2014 through July 2018 and combines crisis response and development to expand equitable access to education and improve learning outcomes for children. MSI’s role is in four areas: 1) collecting and analyzing data on children’s reading levels by implementing early reading assessments; 2) conducting surveys on teacher’s knowledge of reading instruction; 3) designing and implementing an early warning system for children at risk of not learning to read; and 4) holding policy workshops based on the findings of the reading assessments and the reading instruction surveys. MSI will conduct a pilot of early grade reading assessment tools for the Improved Basic Education Services Project in Lebanon in May 2015. The pilot will be conducted in 20 schools throughout Lebanon and will target students in grades one to three.   Position Summary:  Ahead of the pilot of the early grade reading assessment tools, the Arabic Language and Reading Experts will participate in the tools development workshops on a fulltime basis from April 14th to April 17th, and April 20th and 21st from 8am to 5pm. The experts will:  Responsibilities:  Work in small groups to develop the content of 13 to 15 Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) subtasks using guidelines provided. Draft student questionnaire and review English model of questionnaire and translate into Arabic. Review and correct EGRA content/items. Review work of typists for accuracy and proper formatting. Finalize EGRA tools for the pilot and diagnostic tests.
