Duties & responsibilities:
The consultant will be expected to provide cross-cutting legal support on all interventions related to the organization’s mission and impact by:
- Assisting the organization in consulting on key governmental and legislative reform;
- Synthesizing policy recommendations and drafting policy papers;
- Coordinating with relevant partners and stakeholders on matters related to reform and policy advancement;
- Following up and documenting all major judicial and legislative developments relating to the organization’s activities and interventions;
- Providing legal counsel and support to the organization’s beneficiary pool which is constituted of vulnerable youth from marginalized backgrounds (e.g. formerly incarcerated; stateless);
- Conducting periodic field visits to assess the youths’ legal needs;
- Delivering information sessions on protection, rights and obligations, legal status, statelessness and other issues as dictated by the needs at field-level;
- Assisting the organization in the development of internal guidelines, policies, procedures;
- Ensuring (internal & external) compliance with laid down guidelines, policies and procedures; investigate issues of non-compliance as may be required;
- Analyzing and reviewing third-party agreements, employment contracts, scopes of works and other internal legal documents;
- Monitoring, filing and maintaining the organization’s legal documents and archive.
- Undertake any other tasks and duties assigned by the organization’s general coordinator.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in law;
- Member of the Lebanese Bar Association;
- 3+ years of experience working as a legal consultant or other related positions;
- Sound knowledge of the Lebanese judicial system, constitution and legislation;
- Familiarity with the Lebanese incarceration system is of added value;
- Experience in lobbying and policy reform is desirable;
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Excel);
- Excellent command of English and Arabic both written and verbal;
- Ability to perform under pressure and operate under stressful circumstances
- Good time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines;
- Ability to respect confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion;
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders;
- Good research and analytical skills;
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
