Community Mobilisation Officer

Project Summary Within Medair’s emergency response to Syrian refugees, this new health and nutrition project focuses on addressing health/nutrition needs in a complex context. Capacity-building in selected local partner health facilities and communities, especially the Ministry of Social Development (MoSA) through existing Social Development Centres (SDCs).  Health Project Management Lead, organise, train and supervise the teams of community mobilisers and community volunteers. Build relationships with local authorities, municipalities, leader of informal settlements, schools and the host communities. Formulate health, nutrition and hygiene messages and approaches in consultation with project staff and the Community Volunteers. Set up and maintain a referral system in project area communities and informal settlements. Submit timely weekly and monthly reports to the health manager. Provide input to the integration of beneficiary participation into all aspects of the health projects. Act as link between Medair and communities, between outreach staff and supported SDCs, local authorities. Assist in planning and implementation of assessments and surveys as required. Ensure that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed. Staff Management Line-manage community mobilizers and community volunteers involved in the health project. Facilitate regular meetings to assist information sharing between project staff and communities, to ensure all staff members and community volunteers are aware of project objectives and current work plans and to provide the opportunity for feedback. Responsible for coaching and technical supervision of community volunteers in order to develop ownership and full responsibility for health and nutrition activities. Communication and Coordination In close coordination with the project manager, develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the assigned community volunteer team, SDC staff and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local municipalities) with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships. Participate in coordination meetings related to community health, Medair internal trainings, and other meetings as required, representing Medair and feeding back to the health manager/project manager on relevant issues. Finance and Logistics Support the logistics activities for the community health part of the project as required  Manage the budget related to community mobilization as delegated by the project manager and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards with regard to financial management. Person Specification 2 years relevant post-qualifcation experience Experience of behaviour change programming Experience of working in a humanitarian context Knowledge and experience of primary health care principles and community mobilization Aptitude for community mobilisation and capacity-building Experience in training / mentoring / coaching staff Able to consult and lead by example
