Project Overview
Medair in Lebanon is implementing several projects in the WASH and Shelter sectors to assist Syrian Refugees who are fleeing the civil war in Syria. Medair’s projects focus on the Informal Settlements in the Bekaa Valley, and involve shelter and Non Food Items distributions, Mapping of settlement locations, and Site Improvements. The Site Improvements project seeks to work with settlement communities to improve the external environmental conditions of settlements, through basic infrastructure projects.
Role and Responsibilities
Working as part of the Site Improvements team, the Community Mobilisation Coordinator will be responsible for the community engagement element of the project. The Community Mobilisation Coordinator will be responsible for identifying community members to create a community council, for explaining the project to them, and for developing programmes to ensure sustainable implementation of the projects

Key Activity Areas
Participate in site and beneficiary selection
Initiate community assessments
Identify key members of communities to support programmes
Assist in the implementation of site improvements
Facilitate community discussions
Complete associated beneficiary recipient documentation
Responsible for community sensitisation and mobilisation regarding settlement maintenance
Liaise with local communities on site
Liaise with local authorities as appropriate
Lead community development councils
Assist in translation as needed.
Communicate implementation problems or issues to Project Manager.
Liaise with Mapping Team and Distribution team
Participate in the generation of the final reporting of the project via post implementation analysis.
Qualifications
Academic studies in a related field.
Languages
Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (spoken and written)
Experience / Competencies
Studies in social work, development or similar field beneficial
Good working knowledge of geography and culture of the Bekaa Valley region
NGO or community engagement experience vital
Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages
Passionate about serving the poor, self-motivated and a desire to further knowledge
Aptitude for community mobilization and engagement
Team-player with good interpersonal skills
Willing to support others and share workloads
Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
Creative, open-minded, flexible and a self-leaner
Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations
