Senior Data Engineer-GLOBAL

Key Activity Areas

Data Engineering

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes,optimising data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS or similar ‘big data’ technologies.
  • Build analytics tools tha utilise the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
  • Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries wherever our data is located (on-premise & cloud-providers).
  • Create data tools for future analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimising our product into an innovative NGO leader.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Product Management

  • Translate business requirements into logical,component-based technical designs.
  • Perform administration / configuration / data migration / integration duties on select systems in accordance with project objectives.
  • Create and design technical specification documentation.
  • Drive resolution of issues that come up during the deployment phase of projects.
  • Implement or oversee implementation,
  • coordinating tests and observing initiation of the system to validate performance.

 Data Quality Management

  • Ensure accuracy of input data, output data and data migration.
  • Evaluate issue patterns and operational to plan and recommend process improvement and possible system upgrades.

User Support and Training

  • Provide second level support to users.
  • Stay up to date: use existing trainings, (community) resources, and develop skills and knowledge about the latest features. Train users accordingly.

Vendor Management

  • Work with contracted service providers and other technical groups to resolve data-related issues.

Innovation / Changes        

  • Stay aware of current developments in the area of technology, methodologies (Agile/Scrum, etc), modern architectures and services such as Apache Kafka (event-driven architecture), Snowflake, Data Vault modelling.
  • Be able to identify gaps in the process and propose improvements within the systems workflow or business processes.
