Wash Assistant

Overall Purpose Working as an important member of a diverse team, the employee will be responsible to 1) Assist the Team Leader in assessments of Informal Settlements (IS) and outside settlements in Unfinished Buildings 2) Ensure accuracy of assessments and provide leadership to casual labour in your team 3) Assist in distributions of Shelter kits, WASH items, Non Food Items (NFI) and Food Items (FI) both in Informal Settlements (IS) and Outside Settlements 4) Maintain organized records and ensure timely reporting. 5) Maintain Information Management systems LMMS and ODK. Project Overview In response to the Syrian Crisis and the resulting influx of refugees into Lebanon, Medair is assessing and distributing shelter kits and Non Food Items (NFI) within IS. Shelter and NFI are a large part of the Medair Lebanon’s programming which also includes site planning and GIS mapping. Major Duties and Responsibilities:   Planning and Assessment   Participate in site and beneficiary selection Participate in the assessment of WASH needs in Informal Settlements Develop hygiene promotion materials and activities   Implementation   Assist in the planning and implementation of WASH activities, including participating or supervising distribution and installation of WASH items (e.g. water tanks, latrines, etc.) Undertake hygiene promotion activities Support logistic activities including procurement or required materials Establish and facilitate WASH community groups within Informal Settlements Monitor Informal Settlements residents behavior and behavior change   Communication   Work with existing team to locate and select ITS within current target locations Establish and maintain good communication lines with local authorities, local leaders and residents in Informal Settlements Lead community hygiene and sanitation councils Assist in translation as needed Communicate implementation issues to supervisor Reporting Continuously monitor and report on the effectiveness of WASH interventions Establish worksheets to update records and monitor activities Ensure organized and updated records Participate in the generation of final reports of the project activities upon request    Qualification / Experience: Water treatment, sanitation, hygiene promotion work experience  Strong working knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic Ability to use Microsoft Office package and Outlook.  Passionate about serving the poor, Self-motivated, Enthusiastic Aptitude for community mobilisation and engagement Team-player with good inter-personal skills Willing to support others and share workloads   Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations             Strong communication, particularly verbal Ability to translate between spoken Arabic and English  Able to take initiative Ability to encourage others Ability to working within hostile environments and deal with conflict       Data collection, plan ahead and be well organised Work well as part of a team Attention to detail
