Wash Officer-All Areas (Rolling recruitment, subject to donor approval)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Planning and Assessment

  • Participate in site and beneficiary identification and selection.
  • Support the assessment of WASH needs in project areas and prepare the required documentation.
  • Contribute to assessments of WASH development projects across intervention areas.
  • Communicate additional assessment needs identified in the field.
  • Maintain updated lists of project locations (informal settlements, collective shelters) and community contacts.
  • Plan activities in project areas according to guidance from the supervisor.

Implementation

  • Support the planning and implementation of WASH activities, including supervising or participating in distributions and installations (e.g., water tanks, hygiene kits, latrines, water and wastewater networks).
  • Assist in distributing WASH items during regular and emergency situations based on identified needs.
  • Manage and track project data related to assigned WASH activities and coordinate with beneficiaries and suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Oversee the technical execution of WASH interventions and ensure quality standards in materials and construction.
  • Support logistics activities, including procurement of required materials.

Communication

  • Work closely with WASH team members to identify and select target locations.
  • Liaise with local communities and stakeholders at field level.
  • Provide translation support when needed.
  • Report any implementation challenges or issues to the supervisor.
  • Support the supervisor and Project Manager in maintaining positive relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings and external stakeholder meetings as required.

Reporting

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of WASH interventions.
  • Maintain updated worksheets and records to track activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting through weekly and monthly reports.
  • Assist in preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and field documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Support data analysis using LMMS, ODK, and other relevant software.
  • Contribute to reporting activities to donors through platforms such as ActivityInfo.
  • Assist in preparing final project reports when required.

Staff Management

  • Supervise assigned WASH Assistants and casual laborers, including daily site management, work planning, and ensuring quality standards of interventions.

Logistics

  • Coordinate with logistics staff to ensure materials are properly procured, transported, stored, and accounted for.
  • Quality & Financial Management
  • Follow Medair policies and procedures to ensure transparency, accountability, and prevention of fraud or misuse of resources.
  • Adhere to Medair’s financial and quality management guidelines in all project activities.
