Major Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Assessment
- Participate in site and beneficiary identification and selection
- Participate in the assessment of WASH needs in project areas preparing all necessary paperwork
- Participate in the assessment of WASH development projects across all areas of intervention
- Communicate any further assessment needs identified
- Prepare and maintain the list of project areas such as informal settlements, collective shelters and community contacts
- Plan activities in project areas according to the criteria set by the supervisor
Implementation
- Support the planning and implementation of WASH activities, including participating in or supervising distribution and installation of WASH items in regular and emergency situations (e.g. water tanks, kits, latrines, water and wastewater networks, etc.)
- Assist in distributing WASH items as required during regular and emergency situations, following discussions with the line manager and based on the specific needs of each situation.
- Manage the collated data of the assigned WASH projects (e.g. latrines installation) and interaction with beneficiaries and suppliers/subcontractors
- Oversee the technical execution of WASH activities
- Ensure quality checks of material specification and selection and robustness in design and construction of WASH inputs
- Support logistic activities including procurement or required materials
Communication
- Work closely with other members of the WASH team to locate and select target locations
- Liaise with local communities on site
- Assist in translation as needed
- Communicate to the supervisor any issues during project implementation or with IT
- Help the supervisor and Project Manager to develop and maintain positive relationships with local authorities, other NGOs and any other stakeholders, whilst representing Medair and ensuring good co-operation and partnerships
- Participate in project team coordination meetings as required
- Participate in external stakeholder and inter-agency meetings as required
Reporting
- Continuously monitor and report on the effectiveness of WASH interventions
- Establish worksheets to update records and monitor activities
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities e.g. through weekly and monthly reports
- Participate in preparing bill of quantities (BoQs) and reports, documenting all fieldwork for office reporting, and handling office tasks using various Microsoft Office tools
- Participate in the generation of final reports of the project activities upon request
- Undertake analysis of collected data using LMMS, ODK and other software
- Help in reporting of activities to donors using Activity Info
Staff Management
- Ensure management of assigned WASH assistants and casual labourers, including day-to-day management on site and work planning, along with ensuring quality standards of WASH interventions
Logistics
Work with logistics staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted
Quality & Financial Management
- Pro-actively work to prevent potential loss or even fraud by adhering to Medair guidelines on fraud prevention with relevant line managers to improve transparency and to ensure the best use of Medair assets and resources
Work within Medair’s recognised procedures in the area of finance and quality management
Person SpecificationPerson Specification:
- Academic studies in a relevant field, civil or mechanical engineering
- At least 2 years in design and supervision of water and wastewater networks, Water treatment systems, sanitation andhygiene promotion work experience
- Strong working knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic
- Ability to use Microsoft Office package, AutoCAD and Outlook
- Passionate about serving the most vulnerable
- Self-motivated
- Enthusiastic
Aptitude for community mobilisation and engagement
Team-player with good inter-personal skills
- Willing to support others and share workloads
