Medair’s team in Lebanon provides water, sanitation, and hygiene materials and training to improve conditions in IS. This project will complement currently existing shelter, NFI, site improvement, and GIS mapping projects.
The WASH project assistant will support the busy WASH team to identify needs within the refugee population and provide goods, services and training as required.
Planning: Identify and assess needs of vulnerable communities and design appropriate interventions
Work with other WASH staff to select high-risk communities within Medair’s area of intervention
Establish agreements with relevant parties, ensuring clear communication of the project, its purpose and stakeholder responsibilities
Work with WASH staff to develop innovative solutions to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in the IS.
Design and carryout assessments of WASH-related needs
Know criteria for distribution of different WASH items
Provide materials and services required to implement activities
Work with Medair’s logistics, assessment, and distribution teams to ensure that assessments and distributions of physical materials are made in a timely and efficient manor
Monitor correct storage and use of materials at sites
Implementation: ongoing technical advice and monitoring of activities
Monitor contracted service providers to ensure that obligations are met.
Work side by side with beneficiary families as they implement WASH strategies
Provide continual expertise throughout implementation till completion of activity
Collect water samples for analysis, deliver to testing laboratory, and monitor results
Ensure clear communication to beneficiaries and build strong community relationships
Monitor and document effectiveness of implementation strategies and report future recommendations
Document daily activities and lessons learned from each activity
Ensure that all paper work and records are up to date, accurate, and correctly stored
Provide contextually relevant and cost effective recommendations for future programing
Establish worksheets to update records and monitor activities
Ensure organized and updated records
Be prepared to present information or reports on project activities upon request to project manager
Job Specification
Previous NGO or community engagement experience required
Experience/ studies in civil/environmental engineering, or a related field preferred
Previous data collection and/or leadership roles
Strong working knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic.
Work experience conducting distributions
Good working knowledge of geography and culture of the Bekaa Valley region
Team-player with good inter-personal skills
Passionate about serving the poor
Ability to working within hostile environments and deal with conflict
Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner
Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations
