Water, Sanitation, And Hygiene (Wash) Project Officer

PROJECT OVERVIEW In response to the Syrian Crisis and the resulting influx of refugees into Lebanon, Medair is seeking team members with a civil and/or environmental engineering background to facilitate and coordinate water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion interventions in IS. This project will complement currently existing shelter, site planning, and GIS mapping projects.   Medair Medair brings life-saving relief and rehabilitation in disasters, conflict areas, and other crises by working alongside the most vulnerable. Founded in 1989, Medair’s unwavering commitment continues to bring hope to the world’s most vulnerable.    RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with project manager to select high-risk communities within Medair’s area of intervention Communicate with municipality, IS leaders and relevant households Establish agreements with relevant parties, ensuring clear communication of the project, its purpose and stakeholder responsibilities Work with project manager to develop innovative solutions to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in the IS. Organize procurement documents for needed materials and services Work with Medair’s logistics department in a timely and efficient manor Take responsibility of materials once left warehouse to field locations, monitor correct storage and use of materials at sites Once planning is completed and materials are ready, work side by side with beneficiary families as they implement WASH strategies Provide continual expertise throughout implementation till completion of activity Build strong community relationships Document lessons learned from each activity Provide contextually relevant and cost effective recommendations for future programing Establish worksheets to update records and monitor activities Ensure organized and updated records Be prepared to present information or reports on project activities upon request to project manager    Experience / Competencies: Experience in water treatment, sanitation, and/or hygiene promotion Experience in pratical on-site construction management Previous experience with community facilitation project Strong working knowledge of written and spoken English and Arabic Ability to use Microsoft office programming and Outlook Passionate about serving the poor Self-motivated, Enthusiastic, Desire to learn Aptitude for community mobilisation and engagement Team-player with good inter-personal skills Willing to support others and share workloads capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations Strong communication, particularly verbal Ability to translate between spoken Arabic and English Able to take initiative, encourage others, and working within hostile environments and deal with conflict Problem solver and positive attitude, Flexibility, Motivator, Ability to plan and follow activities through  Willingness to try a typical and innovative strategies
