Information And Communication Assistant Middle East

  MEDECINS DU MONDE FRANCE seeks     A Information and communication assistant Middle East Position based in Beirut     For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organization committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.     TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES : Under the supervision of the Coordinator Information and Communication Middle East, you will be responsible for:   - Support in updating MdM Arabic/English website: translate contents (presentation texts, articles, video subtitles…) from English to Arabic, propose/edit contents…                         - Propose contents and monitor social media channels (Facebook, Twitter)                         - Assist in writing, editing and translating the monthly electronic newsletter                         - Help translate/edit/design brochures, leaflets, reports and training materials                         - Monitor statistics on website and social networks traffic and compile them into a monthly report - Assist with media relations: translate press releases and press kits from English to Arabic, meet and liaise regularly with journalists, accompany journalists on field visits… - Update and expand Middle East journalists’ database and research Middle-Eastern media outlets to ensure accuracy of contacts                         - Help fulfill requests for information                         - Monitor publications related to MdM work in the Arabic media                         - Assist in the organisation of various events (conferences, exhibitions, workshops…)                         - Help identify opportunities for partnerships, communication campaigns, etc.                         - Support in collecting testimonies from beneficiaries, doctors and MdM teams   CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Starting: 1st April 2014 Contract: Employee – Fixed term contract Duration: 9 months Full time Post based in Beirut but with frequent trips to the field (Bekaa area, South Beyrouth).   SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED: Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and English; knowledge of French is considered an asset Good writing and editing skills University degree or currently enrolled in university studies related to Communication, Media, Journalism and/or International Relations, Development, Political Science and/or other relevant fields Some knowledge of website management and the use of social media would be considered an asset Demonstrated interest in NGO and humanitarian work Affinity with MdM mandate and objectives Attention to detail and an eye for graphic design Ability to work independently; to be proactive and solution oriented Ability to work in an international team
