Medical Doctor

Main Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the medical supervisor, the Primary health care Satellite Unit (PSU) Medical Doctor will be responsible for the following main activities to ensure the quality of care in the PSU:

 

  • Provision of free-of-charge curative and preventive health consultations.
  • Screening and management of NCDs: Screening of adults above 40 for diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
  • Health education, promotion and prevention shall be provided to all beneficiaries.
  • Maintain stock in the PSU and advise as needed on procurement and purchasing.
  • Back up the initial diagnostic, and treatment and ensure an effective referral system.
  • Supervise medical service provision in the PSU   and ensure the reporting.
  • Coordinate and ensure quality of services for PSU team.
  • Actively participate in internal coordination mechanisms.
  • Actively participate in primary health care needs assessments as necessary among the conflict-affected communities.
  • Support the development of referral pathways to specialized health facilities and secondary health care.
  • Work closely with the nurse and midwife to always ensure the availability of essential medications at PSU.
  • Training Nurses and other medical staff on drug utilization and correct dosage.
  • Actively supports/participates in developing and implementing strategies for improving access, quality standards, effectiveness, and participation based on statistical results, evaluations, surveys, and feedback from attendees.
  • Participate in collection, computerization, and analysis of weekly epidemiological data.
  • Reporting and attendance of different meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Provision of free-of-charge acute/chronic health consultations

  • Prepare all the necessary drugs, materials, and equipment for PSU in coordination with paramedical team and ensure that everything is ready before leaving MdM office.
  • Follow the basic medical rules of hygiene when performing health consultations.
  • Participate actively in triage activities before starting health consultations.
  • Provide medical consultations for chronic and acute diseases: Include identification and follow up on chronic and acute illnesses.
  • Prescription of needed medications in accordance with the MoPH essential drugs list
  • Manage emergency cases according to MdM, WHO and MoPH protocols and regulation.
  • Refer patients when diagnosis or treatment is not possible at the site or further services are needed.
  • Fill in the morbidity data collection form for each patient.
  • Check the immunization status for all EPI-targeted children and refer the unvaccinated children
  • Investigate any information regarding unusual health events or diseases outbreak, provided through any source.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and treat all the patients with respect and dignity.
  • Make timely requests for supplies, equipment, and medicines.

Collection, computerization, and analysis of weekly epidemiological data

  • Support implementation of data collection, M&E, and quality control measures for PSU services.
  • Perform the daily data collection regarding curative/chronic consultations.
  •  Participate in the preparation of internal reports, including submission of weekly reports to the medical officer.
  • Participate in the weekly computerization and analysis of the medical data.

   Reporting and attendance to different meetings

 

  • Prepare a weekly activity report to submit to the Medical supervisor.
  • Support project staff to maintain program records and documentation as per project management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient data.
  • Participate proactively at MdM internal meetings (medical, security…).
  • Participate to all the trainings organized by MdM.

   Other

  • Give suggestions to improve the functioning of MdM PSU.
  • Participate in the loading and unloading of the vehicles and the setting up of the PSU.
  • Participate in weekly physical inventory of PSU medications/medical supplies.
  • Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting good quality services.
  • Perform other additional duties on request of the Medical supervisor
  • Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem in the field.

   Qualifications and requirements

  • Medical doctor degree with professional practice permit
  • Registered with the Physicians’ Syndicate
  • Experience in working in Primary Health Care settings and PSU settings.
  • Specialization in Family Medicine or General Practitioner
  • Certificate of BLS, ACLS, and PTC released by accredited training organizations is preferable.
  • Recent clinical experience (at least six months within the last 24 months).
  • IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English.

 Position based in Beirut Mount Lebanon or any location where there is a gap in health services.
