Medical Doctor

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.

 

Our project focuses on providing medical and mental health care to Migrant Workers in the country.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries’ health conditions.

 

Accountabilities:

 

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
  • Provide face to face and remote consultations.
  • Coordinate with the social worker and nurse the referral for medical investigations and consultations of external partners (e.g. lab tests, imagery, speciality doctor…)
  • With the collaboration of the nurse, follows-up on all the investigation results and make sure the information is communicated to the beneficiary.
  • Adjust the treatment plan according to the specificities of the project’s target population.
  • Identify social and mental health needs of the beneficiary and ensure the referral to the adequate departments.
  • Takes into consideration a holistic approach to the beneficiaries needs when setting up the treatment plan.
  • Ensure that the medical file is clearly filled and complete with a copy of the all the investigations results included. 

 

Qualifications:

Education: 

Essential:

  • MD diploma
  • MoPH’s license to practice in Lebanon as General practitioner
  • Certificate of registration at the Lebanese Order of Physicians (as a GP)

 

Desirable:

  • Desirable diploma in Tropical Medicine
  • Continued Medical Education (CME) credits for the last year from the LOP

 

Experience: 

Essential:

  • 2-year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training) preferably in primary health care settings

 

Desirable:

  • Desirable in tropical medicine, or post-registration experience in Public Health , obs and gynae, paediatrics, A&E, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, general medicine or minor surgery.
  • Previous experience in NGO.

 

Competencies:

 

- MSF aim to respect patient’s right and dignity, according to MSF protocols and values – Adherence to MSF values is mandatory, Interest and / or experience in patient centered management is an asset

- Team spirit and collaboration: MSF aim to provide medical and mental health care in a multi-disciplinary approach – availability to work with other medical, paramedical and psycho-social components

- Open mindedness and flexibility – availability to work/collaborate with people from various background, origin, religion, etc

 

 

To Note: The working shcedule is 2 weeks per month (one week on and one week off) and the working days are including weekends.
