Social worker - North

Accountabilities

  •  Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.
  •  Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.
  •  Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors.
  •  Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity.
  •  Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services (including existing community resources). Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response.
  •  Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services. Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

1. Case Management & Social Support in Primary Health care cetnres(PHCC) and Mobile medical unit( MMU in Akkar)
• Conduct comprehensive social assessments to identify vulnerabilities and critical social needs (protection, shelter, legal, financial, food security, access to healthcare).
• Perform risk assessments and develop basic intervention plans with the service user.
• Provide direct social support when relevant and ensure safe, documented referrals to vetted services.
• Follow up on cases, referrals, and clinical appointments, and ensure proper case closure.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions with medical and MHPSS teams to ensure holistic care.

2. Psychosocial Support (PSS) & Recreational Activities
• Plan, prepare, and facilitate PSS group sessions under supervision, including documenting attendance and outcomes.
• Conduct recreational activities for children, ensuring a safe and supportive environment and integrating basic emotional regulation and wellbeing messages.
• Participate in developing and adapting PSS tools, materials, and curricula.

3. Service Mapping & Referrals
• Participate in mapping of services and update the social worker supervisor of any new services  in the areas of PHCCs and MMUs under direct supervision.
• Follow accurate referral pathways and assess reliability, safety, and criteria of external actors.
• Report to SW Supervisor any gaps identified in the services

4. Community-Level Support & Needs Identification
• Participate in discussions with social worker supervisor on emerging trends, challenges, and protection concerns affecting communities.
•  Collect feedback from patients/caregivers and share with line manager

5. Reporting & Documentation
• Ensure accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of assessments, referrals, follow-up, PSS sessions, and activities.
• Contribute to weekly and monthly reporting and maintain updated statistics.

6. Emergency Preparedness & Response
• Actively support MSF’s emergency interventions by participating in conducting rapid social assessments, facilitating urgent referrals, and providing immediate psychosocial support.
• Participate in rapid field deployments when needed to address urgent social or protection needs.

7. Tools & Material Development
• Assist in the creation or updating of tools, IEC materials, and activity guidelines under supervision.
• Ensure tools are used consistently and adapted based on project needs.

Requirements

Education

Degree in Social Work is essential. Master’s degree in social work is considered an asset

Experience

Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable.

Competence

Full Proficiency in English and Arabic

Full proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools
