Working overseas as an expat with (MSF) means that you will go on missions to work in projects in any of the 70 countries where MSF works. Each missions you go to will require a certain period of commitment (6 to 12 months). Being an expat also means that you will need the flexibility to adjust to unfamiliar food, living quarters, pace of life, and languages. Projects may be located in the most remote places in the world, often in harsh environments with limited resources and amenities. This can mean rudimentary medical equipment and supplies, bland food (cabbage, beans, and lentils), interesting housemates (snakes, bats, scorpions) and few leisure outlets (jogging on the landing strip). Nevertheless, MSF ensures adequate accommodation, appropriate water and sanitation standards, access to the Internet wherever possible, and even clean laundry. Regardless of where you go, it will be a very different lifestyle. Working in an unfamiliar culture inevitably involves challenges in communication and perceptions. Being aware that people may not act or think like you, accepting this, and being able to adapt your own behaviors if required, is of utmost importance when working in the field. A special camaraderie emerges amongst members of a project team who come from different countries, backgrounds and experience. This creates a shared sense of purpose, sparking ingenuity and resourcefulness in getting things done, and a lot of spontaneous fun. http://msf-azg.be/en/working-in-the-field   Identification Name: Midwife Report to: Activities Manager (if any) / Project Coordinator Report to functional: Activity Manager /Project Medical Referent- MTL-MFP / Medical Coordinator Area: Medical             Main purpose: Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.   Accountabilities:                                Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC 1 and CEmONC 2), and neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardized protocols.
