Medical activities and patient care Obstetrical activities
• Is responsible of for all midwifery activities (ante-natal care, post-natal care, neonatal care)
• Organize referral to appropriate labour and delivery services for the pregnant woman
• Prevention of fistula, as well as early management are integrated into obstetrical activities
• Perform normal deliveries if required by the operational project
Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological problems:
• Care for patients with STIs (and for their partners)
• Care of other genital tract infection and UTI
• Care of menstrual disorders, post abortion infections and complications
• Arrange referral to specialist as required
Family planning:
• Ensure a proper provision of family planning to the population (women in reproductive age, as part of postnatal care, etc) experience in family planning is required i.e experience in fitting IUD, advantages and disadvantages of the different family planning techniques
Patient care
• Arrange the follow up of the pregnant women in the ANC; organize the appointment for the pregnant women in collaboration with the register and the doctor.
• ensure that the pregnant women receive the comprehensive reproductive health package provided by MSF
• Know, apply and make sure universal hygiene standards and security rules are respected for medical premises, routing of patients, routing of linen. Ensure asepsis rules during all nursing cares. Ensure quality of the sterilization process.
• Organise and carry out care and treatments according to doctor’s prescription and MSF protocols.
• Ensure that quality and continuity of care are respected.
• Carry out surveillance of the patient, assessment of his health state evolution, identification of emergency situation and information of the doctor.
• In case of emergency, carry out first aid care and treatment according to prior written protocol done by the doctor.
• During medical consultations, ensure the sorting and detect priority acute cases.
• Carry out when necessary a therapeutic education of the patient (and family) using a patient based approach.
Pharmacy and medical equipment management
• Follow the consumption of drugs on daily/weekly/monthly basis
• Prepare the weekly orders for the drugs to the dispensary from the central pharmacy in an organized manner and according to the consumption to avoid stock ruptures
Organisation and team management
• Ensure all medical procedures are carried out correctly
• Ensure hygiene standards are respected
• Work in collaboration with other team members within the clinic (nurse, GP, other midwifes)
• Assist in the supervision, motivation and training of the maternity team
