Accountabilities:
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
- Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
- Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
- Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
- Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
Context specific accountabilites:
- Provide technical supervision, coaching and bedside mentorship to nurses working in PHCCs, MMU, and the Psychiatric unit, ensuring safe, patient-centred and evidence-based nursing care aligned with MSF/MOH protocols and universal standards.
- Conduct regular structured trainings (formal, on-the-job, refresher) on nursing procedures, triage, chronic disease management, paediatric nursing support, mental health nursing care, medication administration safety, documentation and patient education.
- Lead quality-of-care strengthening activities including monitoring of nursing practices, clinical documentation, treatment follow-up, vital-sign monitoring, medication handling and continuity of care.
- Implement and reinforce Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures in all supported units, ensuring correct hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning/disinfection procedures, waste management, safe injection practices and environmental hygiene.
- Support the detection, notification, documentation and follow-up of Patient Safety Incidents (PSI), contributing to root-cause analysis, action planning and lessons learned dissemination.
- Conduct supervision visits to PHCCs and MMUs to identify performance gaps, provide immediate feedback, develop improvement plans, verify adherence to protocols, and monitor follow-up of previous corrective actions.
- Strengthen safe medication management practices in collabaration with Pharmacy supervisor: stock rotation, cold chain preservation (where applicable), expiry monitoring, rational distribution, secure storage, and proper reporting of shortages or misuse.
- Monitor nursing competencies related to emergency preparedness, including basic life support, stabilization of high-risk patients, infection alert recognition, and referral readiness.
- Ensure nurses are trained and qualified on the use, cleaning and minor maintenance of medical devices; report malfunctioning equipment promptly to the biomedical focal point.
- Contribute to accurate and timely nursing-related data collection, including Monthly SitRep, Annual report, nursing indicators, PSI logs, IPC monitoring sheets, and monthly activity reporting to the PMR.
- Coordinate with HR and PMR regarding training needs analysis, onboarding of new nurses, skill assessments, annual appraisals and support to performance improvement plans.
- Promote respectful care and protection of patient confidentiality, reducing stigma against mental health or vulnerable patients
Education
- Recognized nursing degree, diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Science of Nursing
- Ministry of Public Health practice license as Nurse in Lebanon
- Certificate of registration at the order of nurse in Lebanon
Experience
Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
