Psychiatrist - Bekaa - 20% Activity Rate

Function responsibilities include:

  • Support the mhGAP doctors by providing clinical supervision, shadowing sessions, and on-the-spot support when needed.
  • Provide training and supervision to national (doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines, including delivery of mhGAP-based training and follow-up support.
  • Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors.
  • Ensure alignment with MSF guidelines on psychotropic medication use by supporting the mhGAP doctors in the rational use of medications and advising on appropriate prescribing practices.
  • Ensure that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order to monitor the provision of care.
  • Support the MHAM and project team in understanding the national psychiatric care landscape by contributing insights based on clinical observations and field experience when relevant, without leading on psychiatric service evaluations.
  • Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Conduct monthly field visits to MSF-supported clinics to provide clinical supervision to mhGAP-trained doctors, focusing on complex case reviews and practical guidance to strengthen diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Remain available remotely (on-call) to provide timely psychiatric input for acute or complex cases managed by mhGAP doctors.
  • Contribute to continuous capacity building by supporting mhGAP training sessions and providing mentoring and technical feedback to ensure consistent, context-adapted application of mhGAP protocols.
  • Attend a monthly coordination meeting (onsite or remote) with the MH Activity Manager (MHAM) and Medical Activity Manager (MAM) to align on supervision needs, address clinical challenges, and plan strategic support.
  • Provide technical guidance in line with MSF protocols, standards, and ethical principles, ensuring all interventions reflect MSF’s commitment to quality, neutrality, and patient-centered care.
  • Actively contribute to the mission as an MSF representative, demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and adherence to MSF values in all internal and external interactions.
  • Support with clinical input to the MH and medical team on the necessity of referral for complex cases and ensuring, in a supervisory role, that referral decisions follow established protocols and appropriate care pathways.
  • Provide technical feedback on quality of case management for patients referred to mental health services in coordination with the MHAM/MAM and identify areas for improvement during case discussions and field visits.
  • Advise on therapeutic adjustments, especially for patients with NCD and mental disorders comorbidities.

 

Requirements

Education         

  • Essential: MD degree, specialized training in psychiatry
  • Essential: License to practice as a Psychiatrist in Lebanon, issued by Ministry of Public Health
  • Essential: Valid certificate of registration with the Lebanese Order of Physicians (LOP)

Experience  

  • Essential working experience as a psychiatrist
  • Experience in training and supervision

Languages        

  • Arabic and English essential

Knowledge        

  • Basic to intermediate computer literacy using MS-office applications (MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel, MS Powerpoint)
  • Capacity to work in a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
