Today, MSF provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, and exclusion from health care or natural disasters. MSF in Lebanon currently has 2 projects mainly on primary health care and mental health, in Wadi Khaled and the Bekaa valley.

Type of contract: 100%, fixed term 12 months, renewable upon need

Salary: 150,645,684 LBP per month (USD 1,683 per month)

 

Scope of responsibility: MSF

Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

Function responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
  • Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
  • Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions
  • Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people  whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
  • Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
  • Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective

Specific Accountabilities

  • Coordinate closely with MMU doctor (including mhGAP doctors), nurses, counselors and CHEs for early identification, triage, and appropriate referral of mental health cases.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations, establish clinical formulations, and define treatment and follow-up plans adapted to the mobile context, in line with MSF guidelines and mhGAP protocols.
  • Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapeutic interventions, prioritizing short-term, focused, and feasible approaches compatible with MMU visit schedules.
  • Identify cases requiring psychiatric evaluation or specialized care and coordinate referral to the mhGAP doctor, fixed clinics, or external referral facilities, ensuring continuity of care and proper documentation.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate group psychosocial and psychoeducational interventions during MMU activities.
  • Inform patients and families about the nature of the condition, available treatment options, and expected outcomes, using culturally appropriate and accessible language.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality and ethical management of all patient information, records, and group activities, particularly in community and outreach settings.
  • Implement MSF Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) protocols, ensuring safe identification of survivors, strict confidentiality, and timely referral to appropriate medical and psychosocial services.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of mental health activities using MSF-approved tools adapted to MMU workflows, contributing to monitoring, follow-up, and program evaluation.
  • Inform the Mental Health Supervisor of any clinical, ethical, or operational issues affecting patient care and contribute to problem-solving and service adaptation.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, case discussions, and technical meetings led by the Mental Health Supervisor or Mental Health Activity Manager.
  • Contribute, when requested, to community outreach, psychoeducation, and awareness activities in coordination with the MMU team and Health Promotion staff.
  • Contribute to mental health activities across other project components when required by operational needs, in coordination with the Mental Health Supervisor and Mental Health Activity Manager

Requirements

Education

  • Essential: Master’s degree in psychology from a recognized university
  • Essential: Specialization in clinical psychology from a recognized university.
  • Essential: Ministry of public health practice license as Psychologist in Lebanon.
  • Essential: Valid certificate of registration at the Lebanese order of Psychologists.

 

Experience

  • Essential: At least 2 years of certified work experience in clinical psychology.
  • Desirable: Previous experience with MSF or other local and/or international NGOs.

Languages         

  • Essential: Full professional proficiency using the Arabic and English Language.
  • Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency using the French Language.

 

Knowledge

  • Essential: Basic to intermediate computer literacy using MS-office applications (MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel).
