Job Title: Clinical Lead Midwife
Location: Palestinian refugee camps in Tyre
Mission: Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon
Job Purpose:
Provide home-based health screening, health care and health advice to mothers and infants up to 1 year of age. The post holder will be responsible for managing their own caseload. They will be expected to make complex autonomous clinical decisions regarding patient care with support and supervision from clinical lead. Also provide technical supervision and advice to MAP community midwives. The Clinical Lead will supervise the work of (two to three) other MCH staff.

Reporting to: Director of Operations (Lebanon)
Responsible for: 2-3 assigned midwives
Key Internal relationships: Director of Operations Lebanon, Programme Officer/Manager, Administrators, Midwives, Finance Officer/Manager
Key External relationships: Maternal and Child Health (MCH) beneficiaries
Contract: 12 months (Fixed term)

Duties and key responsibilities
Provision of maternal and child care
- Home visiting in the antenatal and post-natal periods to assess potential risk to mother and infant in co-ordination with UNWRA and other health providers
- Provide necessary referrals to clinical medical and social support providers
- Provide evidence based antenatal care in home settings according to project and international care standards
- Provide evidence-based post-natal care in home settings according to Project and international care standards
- Provide care and assessment of infant up to 1 year in home settings according to project and international standards of IMCH.
- Follow up on care plans to ensure high quality patient care is given in the community.
- To support exclusive breastfeeding through advice support and management of feeding difficulties
- Provide counseling and advice on infant growth and development, supporting parents through positive parenting approaches.
- Support management of anemia in both mothers and infants in home settings
- Screen for UTI/RHI infections in the ante partum, intra partum and post- partum period.
- Support contraception choices for post-partum women through counselling in accordance with evidence based international guidelines and project standards.
- Provide post abortion support and counseling
- Provide evidence-based preconception counseling and support
- Maintain records and care plans to agreed standards
- Provide screening for acute malnutrition in women and children, provide nutritional advise, and refer to treatment and support centers as needed.
- Provide support and referral for women affected by post-natal depression and/or family violence.
- Provide community group health awareness sessions form women and men.
Technical supervision to MCH teams
- Discuss care plans with supervised staff; provide advice and guidance as needed
- Review supervised staff’s case notes, require clarifications and provide
guidance as needed
- Conduct periodic supervised home visits and monitor competency of
supervised staff, using MAP’s MCH competency assessment tool
- Provide reports to the project management team as needed
Other responsibilities
- Coordinate closely with project administrator to maintain and transfer data for data management
- Participate in training and maintain required levels of competency and skills development

Knowledge
- Fluent in Arabic; working knowledge of English is strongly preferred
Education/training
- BS or equivalent in midwifery or nursing
Personal attributes and other requirements
- Able to work flexibly in emergencies and to meet specific deadlines including some evenings and weekends.
- Travel to Beirut for training and coordination purposes occasionally required
