Gatherings for Children, Women and Families Affected by the Syrian Refugee Crisis – Phase II
Position: Co-trainer and translator for ECD Training Activities
1. Background
MAP works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. In response to the current humanitarian refugee crisis in Lebanon, MAP is currently implementing the project “Strengthening Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support in Palestinian camps and
Gatherings for Children, Women and Families Affected by the Syrian Refugee Crisis – Phase II”. The project is managed in partnership with four Palestinian NGOs, and it is co-funded by UNICEF; it aims to mitigate the impact of war and displacement and contribute to strengthening resilience, healthy development and positive coping mechanisms among Palestinian refugee women and children from Syria, their families and the host Palestinian community. The project integrates a Gender
Based Violence prevention and response component.
Within the framework of this intervention, MAP is currently recruiting a Co-trainer and translator to assist a Senior International Trainer with delivering and evaluating an Early Childhood Development Training course targeting MHPSS/Child Protection actors within the Palestinian NGO community.
2. Objective of the position:
To provide verbal and written translation, and co-facilitation and support to MAP’s Senior International Trainer, within the framework of five Early Childhood Development Training workshops targeting MHPSS/Child Protection actors within the Palestinian NGO community.
3. Location and duration
The five workshops will be held in different locations which will possibly (but not necessarily) include the following: Beirut, Tripoli, Zahle, Saida and Sour.
Each workshop will last for four consecutive days, from 9:00am till 4:00pm, with a fifth day for home-based written translation and reporting work after each workshop. Overnight stay in the locations where the training is held is required over the four days of each workshop. The workshops may be held during weekdays or weekends.
4. Key tasks and responsibilities:
To support the International Trainer with preparing and translating training materials for each workshop
To provide English-Arabic verbal translation during each training workshop
To co-facilitate role plays, group work and other activities conducted in the frame of the training
Together with the International Trainer, to demonstrate through role plays and simulations the good practices and skills that form part of the contents of the training
To translate and support the analysis of evaluation forms and pre-and post-tests
To support the International Trainer with preparing a final report for each training workshop

5. Time-frame
25 working days over a period of two months (June-July 2015).
6. Person specifications
Strong work ethics and commitment to MAP’s goals and values
Academic background in Psychology, Child Development or related subjects; post-graduate education highly desirable
Demonstrable previous experience in a similar position as co-trainer and translator for MHPSS, Child Protection and Early Childhood Development training activities
Demonstrable previous experience of partnership work supporting local NGOs within the Palestinian community
Previous experience of work in the framework of UNICEF-funded projects is highly desirable
Strong proficiency in Arabic and English (with strong writing skills in both languages);
Excellent communication skills and problem solving
Flexible and patient
Driving license and ability to drive in Lebanon
