Key Project Objectives

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS).

Promote and/or provide services that specifically address the MHPSS needs of children within the communities we work with.

Improve access to and quality of MHPSS services, within the framework of the four-level MHPSS intervention pyramid recommended in the Inter Agency Standing Committee Guidelines

 

Job Purpose

As part of UNICEF’s integrated approach to expanding lifesaving nutrition interventions into MHPSS program services, MAP seeks to recruit one Nutrition focal point to oversee and support the implementation of nutrition activities across the sub-partners centres under their responsibility, with the goal of improving the nutritional status of children in the Palestinian camps and gatherings.

 

Task List

  • The Nutrition focal point will ensure that all sub-partners’ designated field nutrition focal staff are:
  • Equipped to deliver lifesaving nutrition services as per UNICEF protocols.
  • Are complying with reporting and monitoring requirements.
  • Supported with technical oversight and coordination.
  • Supported with the referral of cases in need for additional nutrition support services.
  • Provide support for capacity building plans and logistics to sub-partners’ designated field nutrition focal staff delivered by UNICEF on unified nutrition awareness modules.
  • Support with the integration of Nutrition awareness and into MHPSS activities.
  • Frequent travel to various Palestinian camps and gatherings in Lebanon (North, South, Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and Baalbeck) to conduct scheduled onsite support visits to the project’s centre’s locations where the sub-partners designated field nutrition focal staff work.
  • Provide overall support and guidance to MAP sub-partners’ designated field nutrition focal staff in the provision of informed nutrition awareness services. Conduct individual and group onsite meetings with the sub-partners’ designated field nutrition focal staff in regions across Lebanon as needed.
  • Ensure that services are delivered adhering to best practices, do no harm guiding principles, confidentiality, safety, respect, and non-discrimination, including safeguarding and other relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Participate in team meetings, review, offer recommendations, and brainstorm durable solutions for challenges.
  • Assist in harmonization of relevant documentation and forms used and assist with sub-partners’ designated field nutrition focal staff familiarization with developed templates where applicable.
  • Write M&E reports and visit checklists, documenting key observations and recommendations.
  • Contribute to meetings and consultations, focus group discussions, working groups, partners, and other relevant stakeholders s assigned by the Programme manager where relevant.
  • Provide support work during emergency situations where relevant.
  • Data collection and reporting as needed.

 

Methodology

The field visits will be conducted in various durations, part of, or full working day.

The visits will include locations in 11 Palestinian camps and  3 gatherings in 5 regions (North, Bekaa, Baalbek, Beirut-Mount Lebanon, Saida and Tyre in South)

The MAP nutrition focal point is responsible for arranging their own transport means.

The MAP nutrition focal point is responsible for arranging their own visits schedule in consultation with line manager.

 

Key stakeholders

Internal: Lebanon Director, MHPSS Programme Manager and programme officers

External: MAP’s partner organisations, local and international NGOs and working groups.

 

Expertise needed

  • Degree in health, nutrition, public health, or other relevant field. Related training and professional development related is  desirable.
  • Knowledge on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), acute malnutrition, nutrients is a strong asset
  • Knowledge on basic screening and referral, primary care, community based care practices.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in child focused services.
  • Experience in Programme, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting roles.
  • Experience working in the Palestinian refugee camps.
  • Experience in staff support initiatives is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with community based humanitarian aid and development interventions, Child Protection and MHPSS.
  • Good knowledge of best practices, do no harm and guiding principles, including   safeguarding and other relevant policies and gridlines is an asset
  • Significant knowledge with good understanding of context of Palestinian, and the Palestinian refugee camps across Lebanon camps in Lebanon, and understanding of the current political, social, economic, cultural, and historical context of Lebanon and refugees’ crisis is an asset.
  • Familiarity with UN Agencies, International NGOs, donors’ administrative procedures and systems is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience of emergency response is highly desirable.
  • The ability to work during emergency situations is highly desirable.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic language (speaking and writing).

Reporting to

MAP MHPSS Programme Manager

Fees

$66 per working day. Onsite visit of full day or working day is equivalent to 8 hours per day inclusive of arranging own transport means.  No other benefits.

Monthly workplans will be agreed with the line manager; 12 full days visits will be needed per month to cover the project needs.

Safeguarding

Medical Aid for Palestinians MAP has a zero tolerance with regard to Safeguarding including Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.  Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is the responsibility of everyone, and all selected candidates will undergo background checks against PSEA and will be required to always comply with MAP safeguarding policy, PSEA and Code of Conduct.
