Background

MENA Rosa is a network of women living with HIV working in 11 countries of the MENA region, with the main objective of providing an independent niche for Women in all Their Diversity (WiTD) to bring up their concerns, be it psycho-social, educational, gender issue, marriage, sexual, economic, raising and disclosing to children, etc. 

In 2021, under the Global Fund grant, “HIV: Sustainability of Services for Key Population in the MENA region”, MENA Rosa drafted a treatment literacy informative toolkit aiming to expand the quality care, treatment, support and prevention services to reach women living with and affected by HIV, their families and children. The toolkit was designed in a homogenous way throughout different countries of the region, with a mission to reach UNAIDS objective of 95-95-95.

Context of the Activity

MENA Rosa wishes to implement a 4-days Training of Trainers (ToT) in Cairo for its Focal Points (FP) and members.

MENA Rosa will recruit a consultant/facilitator to conduct the four-days training. The consultant will be in charge to draft the agenda of the training, coordinate with various experts/physicians who will give thematic sessions and prepare the pre and post evaluation tests for each session. In addition, the consultant will draft a final report of the training.

Focal Points and members of the network will use the toolkit as a tool during their local outreach interventions with the key population.

The treatment literacy toolkit covers the following:

  • Basic information on HIV/AIDS
  • Antiretroviral therapy adherence
  • Preventive management of HIV/AIDS
  • HIV/AIDS and nutrition
  • Sexually transmitted infections and HIV
  • Psychological support to People Living with HIV (PLHIV)
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)
  • Living with HIV
  • Challenges facing WLHIV.

At the end of the training, the consultant will collect data/feedback from the participants to update the toolkit based on community needs; and feed in a Q&A section to be annexed to the toolkit. Knowing that Focal Points and members have previously attended capacity building and leadership workshops and can use this training to up-scale their outreach work and advocate for the rights of WLHIV.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the content of a four-days’ workshop with WLHIV including: Basic information on HIV/AIDS, antiretroviral therapy adherence, preventive management of HIV/AIDS, HIV/AIDS and nutrition, sexually transmitted infections, psychological support to People Living with HIV (PLHIV), Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), challenges facing WLHIV.
  • Develop a pre and post evaluation test for the participants of the workshop.
  • Conduct a four-days’ workshop for 12 WLHIV in Cairo - Egypt in collaboration with a local NGO.
  • Coordinate with diverse experts (infectious disease physician, NAP manager …).
  • Develop a final report of the training, including feedback from the attendees on the treatment literacy toolkit, as well as a list of Q&A to be annexed.

Objectives and Outcomes

Objectives:

The ToT aims to empower MENA Rosa’s Focal Points and members to provide accurate information to the community (women living with HIV) on treatment adherence.

  • Build the capacities of MENA Rosa’s Focal Points and members in order for them to be positive agents of change in the community,
  • educate on the importance of the treatment adherence,
  • update the treatment literacy toolkit, develop a list of needed service referrals on national level and develop a FAQ annex; and
  • equip the Focal Points and members with knowledge, skills and actions needed to address issues on treatment, stigma and peer support.

 

Outcomes:

  • Knowledge of MENA Rosa’s FPs and members increased on the use of the treatment literacy toolkit; and
  • awareness of WLHIV raised regarding treatment adherence, SRH and mental health.

Deliverables:

  • Detailed agenda of the workshop
  • Pre and post evaluation test
  • Final report of the activity along with participants Q&A

Profile and Qualifications:

  • Very knowledgeable in the HIV field.
  • Experienced in facilitating a training and consultancy, in particular with WiTD.
  • Well-informed of the regional context with previous experiences working in different countries in the MENA Region.
  • Can support in updating the Treatment Literacy toolkit.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in Arabic.
