Scope of work:
- Support Mercy Corps Program team to develop new project ideas, innovations, concept notes and research to assist in the development of new projects and initiatives on livestock management and agriculture
- Support the design of an agricultural framework linked to livestock value chains
- Design tools used for the tracking and management of agriculture and livestock projects
- Explore novel forms of fodder and fodder production that could be adopted in areas of intervention
- Support the integration of agriculture and livestock projects, potentially through the development of more complex, integrated market systems
- Draft a value chain report based on existing data and assessments
- Conduct a training for MC and partner staff on livestock and agriculture project design and management (including all phases) within a humanitarian context
- Conduct an evaluation of existing livestock and agriculture projects and recommend best practices and lessons learnt
Knowledge and experience:
- Experience in working in the areas of agriculture, farming, livestock breeding and animal husbandry, crop production/cultivation and contributing to sustainable market systems
- Experience in designing, managing or providing technical advice on agriculture or livestock projects. Previous experience within a humanitarian context is a plus
- Experience in conducting value chain assessments and market assessments specific to the agriculture and livestock markets
- Experience working with partners in remote monitoring/management settings is strongly preferred.
- Technical knowledge specific to potential diseases that could encounter livestock or crops and applying control measures for these
- Technical information on the improvement of fodder production, preservation, and possible alternative methods of production
- Detailed understanding of the role of livestock/agriculture in household resilience, particularly in vulnerable communities
- Ability to provide technical advice on matters related to livestock and agricultural productivity
- Ability to identify constraints related to livestock and agriculture production and proposing potential interventions to address these
- Initiative of presenting ideas pertaining to livestock and agriculture development in rural areas
- Knowledge of livestock and agricultural practices in the Middle East
- Previous training in LEGS is preferred.
- Advanced degree in an area relevant to agronomy, livestock, animal husbandry, rural development or related field is preferred.
- Experience in fragile environments preferred but not a must
- Fluency in Arabic is preferred, but not essential.
