We currently work in the following sectors: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Youth and Protection, Governance and Social Stability, and Economic Opportunities. Mercy Corps Lebanon currently has nine active programs in these domains.
In order to provide support to program teams, the Performance and Quality Unit (PAQ) was created. This unit contains the monitoring, evaluation and learning advisor, an information and accountability manager, a communications coordinator, and a reporting coordinator, as well as the Performance and Quality Manager. One of the key functions of this unit is the development of efficient and effective program management processes, coordination of key functions such as program reporting and proposal development, providing support to programs during key implementation moments, checking in on program quality and impact through a variety of different techniques, as well as providing support for internal and external communications. Internal and external communication plays a key role in improving program performance, by improving team cohesion, strengthening understanding of Mercy Corps programming with key stakeholders, enabling us to effectively communicate on program successes and challenges, carry out advocacy on key issues, as well as providing visibility on MC activities.
Overview of the Internship:
The graphic design intern will support the communications team through graphic design production either related to Mercy Corps Lebanon or Mercy Corps’ on going programming. S/he will be part of the Program Development and Quality Unit, and will provide visibility material support to enable MC Lebanon to communicate effectively on program successes and challenges, as well as to ensure Mercy Corps’ branding exposure. The graphic designer interns create visual concepts by using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate Mercy Corps Lebanon audience. S/he will work closely with the communications coordinator to develop the overall layout and production design, including but not limited to, roll up banners, infographics, brochures, leaflets, flyers, social media posts, and documents produced by program teams (research documents, evidence papers etc.) within deadlines.
Learning Objectives: The internship will provide an opportunity to learn more about how communications plays a key role in the development and humanitarian sector, not just to improve agency visibility but also to improve program quality by increasing our capacity to communicate effectively with stakeholder, as well as hands-on experience of working with an NGO to develop visibility materials to support Mercy Corps internal and external communication strategy. This will provide the intern with the opportunity to gain more experience in managing the entire process of design for visibility materials– from reception of a brief, to development of a concept and gaining approvals, to development of the material and ensuring adequate review, as well as experience working with external graphic design contractors and ensuring they produce the materials responding to MC branding and programmatic requirements.
Activities
Create visibility material, including but not limited to, leaflets, infographics, roll up banners, posters, flyers, and documents produced by programs teams such as research documents, evidence papers) responding to the brief provided . This includes selection or creation of image and message design, selection of colors, images, text style and layout, in line with MC branding requirements
Perform tasks on Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign
Review initial version of concept with communication coordinator, before sending versions for review with program teams
Integrate feedback from communication coordinator and programs teams, into a modified version of the concept
Instigate and ensure signatures are received for purchase request forms for graphic design which is to be outsourced to preferred graphic design suppliers
Work with graphic design companies to coordinate the process of development of visibility materials, where Mercy Corps has outsourced this, including participation in the initial brief meetings, follow up with the company, coordination of the review process with communications coordinator and program team, and ensuring production of materials on time and responding to the brief provided.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL
3 year graphic designer student or graduate.
IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:
Previous experience with professional graphic design
Computer skills: Knowledge of Photoshop, and Illustrator is a must, knowledge of InDesign is a plus
Ability to capture good photos with high end camera is a plus
Creativeness and artistic ability
Analytical thinking
Good time management and work planning skills to enable on time delivery
Good teamwork and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Fluent Arabic and English (written and spoken) is essential, French is an advantage
