GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Hygiene Promotion Assistant (HPA) under the supervision of WASH/HP Officer, will conduct Hygiene Promotion campaigns, community mobilization, and behavioural change monitoring in the targeted working sites during the lifetime of the project. The project will provide access to improved water services for vulnerable Syrian Refugees and host communities. The HPA will maintain impartiality and neutrality in dealing with all stakeholders. He/she will be responsible for executing tasks that are directly focusing on hygiene awareness rising addressing the Syrian refugees and host communities. This will also include the community mobilization in supporting the construction and maintenance of the water and sanitation facilities such as water points and latrines, the collection of population data, baseline data, and Pre-Kap as well as Post Kap surveys.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. In close collaboration with the WaSH/HP officer, plan, organize and carry out daily hygiene promotion activities within Mercy Corps area of interventions in line with agreed work plans, strategies and methodologies.
2. He/she will conduct the HP sessions in the targeted areas including the HP sessions addressing the children to help them acquire safer hygiene behavior.
3. Assist the HP officer in implementing the behavior change methodology (PHAST) and CHAST for the WASH programs.
4. Assist in conducting the WASH assessments to determine scope of work, resource requirement and estimated cost, including in the identification public health risks in the community.
5. Conduct household surveys in order to identify newcomers and new participants to the Hygiene Promotion sessions.
6. Take part in the identification of beneficiaries for the WASH activities (Toilet construction / rehabilitation, distribution of water tanks and water filters, distribution of hygiene kits).
7. Conduct Population data surveys and Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) surveys related to hygiene and provide inputs for the development of the questionnaires and methodology.
8. Enter data in the Analysis Software / database.
9. Contribute to weekly and monthly reports and other ad hoc reports to meet donor and internal requirements; maintain an accurate reporting and data management of activities (including an updated attendance sheets for HP sessions).
10. Mobilize communities/refugee population to participate in WASH construction/promotion activities as appropriate.
11. Support transportation and distribution of hygiene promotion materials and other in kind WASH supplies.
12. Assist in organizing and conducting trainings to community mobilizers to carry the conversation around water in the community on water safety and safe sources (the use of only chlorinated water); water handling (including storage of drinking water at household's), water usage and management; and potential contamination/pollution in the environment, associated with flooding, water logging and drainage problems
13. Sensitize communities on good hygiene practices with key messages focusing on handwashing, safe disposal of solid wastes and excreta, latrine cleaning, diarrheal diseases prevention, etc. as adopted from time to time depending on the prevailing public health situations.
14. Assist the WaSH officer in conducting WaSH committee meetings in target sites, in addition to monitoring the WaSH facilities and enforcing proper hygiene management of the facilities.
15. Participate in the development of monitoring tools for the hygiene promotion activities
16. Participate in the development of information, education and communication (IEC) materials relevant to the context; with appreciation of cultural norms and beliefs.
17. Contribute to Water quality surveys at project and sector level within Mercy Corps.
18. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission;
19. Develop key productions to increase Mercy Corps’ communication within local communities in Lebanon to promote program activities and increase awareness and acceptance;
20. Coordinate with the HP officer and M&E team to gather and use existing success stories that highlight Mercy Corps’ interventions for donors
21. Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the WASH/HP officer or WASH Project Manager.

Participate in internal office coordination and planning meetings and workshops.
The ideal candidate should have, beside the capabilities mentioned in the Job description:
Very good communication and interpersonal skills, and a solid understanding of behaviour change in emergency settings.
At least 2 years Experience in working with vulnerable populations of different age groups preferably within Refugee Informal Settlements context.
Preferably having an INGO wash experience, so he/she can blend quickly with the team
