Rationale
Mercy Corps Lebanon is undertaking a governance and conflict prevention programme working with Lebanese host and Syrian refugee communities. The end of the programme requires an endline assessing the perceptions of tensions and municipal responsiveness between the two communities in project locations. This will be in the form of household surveys.
Objective
The objective of the consultant will be to undertake quantitative data analysis on the household surveys to produce accurate and credible findings around key research questions.
Activities
Activities to be undertaken by the consultant will include, but not be limited to, the forms listed below.
- Preparing data for analysis, including cleaning, organizing, recoding data into consistent formats, and deriving new/composite variables
- Conducting inferential statistical analyses to test and generate hypotheses
- Conducting regression analysis to test the relationships between variables and thereby generate hypotheses
- Conducting factor analyses to validate and develop scales from related sets of data
- Producing tables, charts and other graphics to illustrate key findings
- Provide ongoing support to the Project Manager and Technical Support Units on interpreting the data
- Writing a report of the key quantified findings
Deliverables
- Sampling plan
- Cleaned and (re)coded data sets
- Outputs for the statistical tests run
- Accessible narrative, and where possible graphic representations of key findings
- Explanations of the statistical tests and procedures used
- Report of the key quantified findings
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in applied research and statistical analysis
- Proficiency using SPSS, STATA, R, or other statistical analysis package
- Demonstrated ability to explain research findings, both visually and in writing
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under time constraints
- Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision
Supervision
The consultant will report directly to Andras Beszterczey, the Project Manager.
Estimated Total Days of Work: Up to 5 total days
Mercy Corps responsibilities
Mercy Corps will provide the consultant with appropriate orientation and technical support necessary to undertake the work.
Consultant responsibilities
Consultant will remain responsible for all costs associated with expenses not listed above, including a laptop computer, additional equipment, and other requirements necessary to undertake the responsibilities of the consultancy.
