Field Engineer/field Program Assistant

Mercy-USA for Aid and Development is dedicated to alleviating human suffering and supporting individuals and their communities in their efforts to become more self-sufficient. Incorporated in the State of Michigan in 1988, Mercy-USA’s projects focus on improving health, nutrition and access to safe water, as well as promoting economic and educational growth around the world. Key Responsibilities: Monitor the project contractors on a daily basis and provide general project execution oversight on a daily basis. Provide a daily report on the execution and any issues faced based on pre-set monitoring tools that ensure detailed relevant technical monitoring. Report directly to the Project Manager. Support in the initial design by supporting the consultant and Project Manager in the data collection stages. Provide daily tasks to the assistant engineer to support in the varying elements of the project that are both technical and non-technical. Support in the design and data collection of the Energy campaign intended for the local community. Represent Mercy-USA at relevant field meetings including WASH and Shelter when advised or requested. Build a respectable relationship with the local community and local government with support from the Field Coordinator. Support Project Manager in all relevant field visits and oversight activities. Field Program Assistant Attends field meetings when and where required.  Prepares bi-weekly reports on activities monitored. Support direct supervisor during field visits inclduing preparing itineraries, supporting in coordinating activities and managing any activities directed by the Program Manager.   Monitors program effectiveness and reports on these in a timely manner. Represents direct supervisor during absence to make sound decisions and to support staff in ensuring effective program delivery and implementation without delay. Supports in identifying and reporting gaps, identifying possible funding opportunities and preparing field level project proposals. Supports in preparing and/or effectively using any M&E tools developed as well an providing input and feedback before roll-out. This will include using and monitoring field staff use of these tools during pilot and official roll-out. General knowledge of warehouse and logistics plans and records.    Conduct daily follow-up activities including staff meetings and review of monitoring. Ensure coordination with NGOs, local community authorities and government. Must have general program and project knowledge of activity plans in order to effectively implement and report on them. Supports in ensuring that the field office is maintained, organized, and representative of Mercy-USA image.   Minimum Hiring Requirements: -Engineering degree, Masters degree is a plus. -At least 2 years’ experience of site management and/or site monitoring -Good command of the English language -At least 6 months experience implementing in a similar setting (i.e. NGO project implementation)   Competencies: - Corporate Competencies: Demonstrate integrity and respect to M-USA values and mission. Ability to deal with day-to-day stresses, complaints and field level security concerns that may arise Ability to use tools provided with little direction Ability to build new relations with individuals on the field in a comfortable and safe way. Ability to differentiate between personal and business relations on the field. - Self-Management: Self-motivated, quick learner with an initiative to perform well and beyond expectations Calm and well-mannered under pressure Quick response to urgent requests for information. Takes and responds well to feedback Open to opposing and various opinions Energetic and positive about the work being conducted Focused on results and meeting deadlines.
