Product Design and Development Consultant

UNICEF's Generation of Innovation Leaders (GIL), in partnership with The Nawaya Network, is commissioning a consultant to guide small youth-led enterprises in the design and development of thousands of Emergency and Hygiene Kits to be distributed to refugee girls and women in the camps throughout Lebanon. These kits will include items such as soap, sanitary pads, scarves, bags, napkins, towels, among other items. The consultant will be expected to work closely with these enterprises to guide them and advise them throughout the design and development of each item.

In this position, the consultant should have a several years of experience in product design and development to ensure a high level of quality in the final product. The consultant will be in charge of ensuring a close communication with GIL youth Alumni to help them out in the entire product creation process. This person will be responsible for identiying the problem in the existing product and then designing a solution with the concerned Alumni GIL youth/team. The consultant should assist the youth in research, prototype, visualization, testing, analyzing, communicating and producing the end products that are required to be in the Hygiene and Emergency Kits. 

Specifically, the consultant:

  • Oversees the complete operation of these Hygiene Kit (15,000 units to be produced) amd Emergency Kit (2,000 units to be produced)
  • Ensures a close communication with the Incubation Coordinator with the end purpose of selecting the projects that have been nominated by the Incubation Coordinator based on their possiblity to produce these products requested by UNICEF to be in the various kits.
  • Defines the product specifications and designs fully-functional final products to be commercialized to various clients ( schools…)
  • Follows up with youth needs in terms of production capacity and required raw material/supplies to be provided.
  • Guides youth through marketing and outreach strategy
  • Sets and communication the operational timeline for product design , development and delivery.
  • Guides and Develops with the youth the various products to ensure a high-level of quality to guanratee a satisfactory results at the level of clients/ end users
  • Undergoes an ongoing level of communication with UNICEF's contact person to make sure the project needs and requirements are met and eventually fulfilled by the youth through the consultant's direct involvement in the planning, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating production cycle.
  • Communicates operational issues and bottlenecks of the process design and development to UNICEF.
  • Prepare a final plan: timeline, quantity to be produced per month, shortage of resources
  • Provides support in event preparation in terms of communication material and organisation.
