Food Safety Officer

A food safety officer is responsible for guiding and overseeing the establishment of field operation systems to support the prevention and mitigation of food safety and quality issues. He/She will oversee the implementation of supplier food safety and quality management programmes, including supplier assessment, audits, and ensures corrective actions implementation.

Detailed Job Description

  • Promote and implement food safety standards, policies, and techniques throughout the organization and incorporate food safety methods.
  • Supervise project staff members and evaluate performance cleanliness efficiency.
  • Prepares and conducts a food safety assessment survey to ensure high quality of resources and their availability (such as food and non-food items).
  • Lead on food safety and quality trainings relevant to the project scope. This includes providing continuous coaching and guidance as required, to enable awareness and high performance of staff in the areas of project implementation.
  • Responsible for maintaining the food safety, quality data and information management and act as the data focal point to monitor the progress of the program activities across all projects as implemented directly from the organization itself or/and with partners.
  • Conducts internal quality audit according to the program design and activities.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of all food safety audits and ensures the execution of proposed corrective action.
  • Work closely with the supply chain department to establish and update the “Approved Supplier List” and evaluate their quality and standards of work.
  • Implements field prospecting (50% of time).
  • Lead and represent the organization at specific food quality and safety meetings and conferences while serving as the focal point in related topics among external parties, prioritizing the improvement of food safety and quality approach.
  • Perform any additional tasks, when requested by the Project Manager.

 

Reports to: Project Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility: Staff, Field Officers, Volunteers, External Stakeholders.

Collaborates and Works with: Supply Chain.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 1 -3 years’ experience in food manufacturing industry and food safety position.
  • Experience in developing risk matrix and mitigation actions.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven experience in the field of food processing; quality management in the food processing industry; or food quality and safety auditing.
  • Experience in ISO and HACCP is a plus
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Suite.
  • Demonstrate excellent English and Arabic oral and written communication skills.
