Terms of Reference

    1. Background

 

With the support of the European Regional Development and Protection Programme for Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq (RDPP II), Oxfam and its partners Legal Agenda (LA) and Lebanese Observatory for Workers and Employees’ Rights (LOWER) are implementing a project titled “Promotion of decent work and sustainable business development in Bekaa, Lebanon.” In addition, the project will work very closely with the My Work, My Rights! Network, an informal group of local Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) that work on advancing decent working conditions in Lebanon.

 

The project aims to contribute to a decent and economically sustainable business environment for displacement-affected populations in the Bekaa by strengthening the linkage between the local civil society, the business development sImage removed.ervice (BDS) providers, and the MSMEs in Bekaa.

To achieve this overall objective, the project will implement activities under three main clusters:

 

  • Cluster 1: Empower a local network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to influence practices and policies related to decent work;
  • Cluster 2: Convene an informal network of private business development organizations and professionals with strong decent work capacities in Bekaa;
  • Cluster 3: Improve working conditions and accessible decent job opportunities in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bekaa.

 

Objective

Oxfam is looking for a qualified editor to edit 2 policy papers translated from Arabic to English and produced by My Work, My Rights Network.

  1. Expected Deliverables

 

The consultant is expected to submit final edited policy papers which will then be translated by Oxfam to English.

  1. Consultancy duties and responsibilities/scope of work

 

  • Copyediting and proof: reviewing content for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as flow, tone, and clarity, including the sequencing, consistency, especially between text and tables and figures and integration of text and boxes, content errors, style and punctuation and ensuring references are complete and accurate.
  • Proofread the final copy and submit (1) a print ready file (2) a PDF for online dissemination.
  1. Qualifications

 

Position Qualification & Skills Requirements:

  • M.A. degree in Arabic literature, social sciences, or other related fields.
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in professional translating and editing with NGOs, especially on advocacy topics.
  • Solid understanding of the concept of decent work, social protection, labor rights is a must.
  • High level of competency in Arabic and English is required.
  • Effectiveness in meeting tight deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, fair and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve quality results with limited supervision and within tight schedules.
  • Language Requirements: fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is required.

  1. Timeframe

 

Timeframe envisioned is between 08/08/2022 and 15/09/2022. Subject to extension if necessary.

The provision of the services is to commence on the date of signature, until deliverables are submitted and approved by Oxfam.
