The Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM), within the Polish Aid funding, is financing and implementing in Akkar region activities related to wastewater sector aiming to strengthen subnational governments and service providers to operate sewage systems and wastewater treatment plants and improve the WASH conditions in the area.
The Quobaiyat village is among the few villages in Akkar that have an operating and maintained wastewater treatment plant.
The Quobaiyat Municipality gives special attention to the WASH sector since there are 9 drinking water wells in the village that supply 43 villages in the area, inhabited by various communities. Therefore, covering the entire area with a well-functioning sewage system is a key priority for the municipality. Qatlabe district does not have yet a sanitary sewage collection system, thus, putting at risk the resources of drinking and irrigation water.
PCPM has been coordinating with the Quobaiyat Municipality to address the problem of discharge of untreated wastewater into the Al Jawz River and deep wells. Feasibility studies have been conducted to extend the existing Quobaiyat wastewater network to Qatlabe district and to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment plant to treat the additional flow from Qatlabe.
In this context, PCPM has anticipated some works on the existing network to prepare easy connection to the new network of Qatlabe district and is requesting the services of a Contractor to execute around 300 m of sewage network as described in this document.
