Protection Social Worker   Première Urgence – Aide Médicale Internationale is a not-for-profit, non-political and non-religious NGO. Its objective is to bring about a global response to the basic needs of populations suffering from acute humanitarian crisis and to allow them to recover their autonomy and dignity. PU-AMI’s involvement in the Syrian Crisis is strong, with a wide range of programs implemented in most of the countries affected by the conflict.   PU-AMI’s main objective in Lebanon for the years 2015/2016 is to provide a protection-based holistic response, covering the basic needs of refugees and host communities in Beirut, Saida, Mount Lebanon and Akkar districts.   A multi-sectorial portfolio of activities (Psychosocial, Education, Health, WASH, Food Security, Infrastructure, Shelter Rehabilitation and IS/CS Management - Protection) is addressing refugees and host population’s vulnerabilities, by enabling individuals and communities to achieve respect for rights in safety and dignity.   PU-AMI is also seeking more sustainable and cost-efficient modalities of implementation, mainly by building partnerships with local organizations and existing public entities, which will contribute to bridge the humanitarian assistance delivered to refugees with specific community support projects, in order to strengthen the social cohesion between communities.   Consequently, PU-AMI’s 2015-2016 Country Strategy is based on 2 programs: -        A Humanitarian Assistance Program: providing a protection-based humanitarian material assistance and services to the most vulnerable refugees and people affected by the Syrian Crisis. -        A Resilience Program: developing and strengthening community-level infrastructures as well as supporting household-level economic empowerment and well-being, with regards to specific poor and vulnerable groups, including women and people with disabilities.                 POSITION GENERAL INFORMATION   Position: Protection Social Worker Component: Protection / Health Based in: Akkar   Supervision   Under the direct supervision of:      Protection Team leader Under the indirect supervision of:  Protection Project Manager Supervision of              :                                               /                        Under the overall supervision of:    Field Coordinator   OVERALL MISSION General objective   Under the direct supervision of the protection team leader and as part of a mobile unit team, the social worker will be in charge of social intervention with families, Lebanese and Syrian, in villages of Akkar. He/she will identify families and individuals problems and difficulties and refer them to adequate specialized services (NGOS, MOSA, etc.). S/he will elaborate, follow and evaluate the social project with the concerned families/individual. The social worker will work with the health mobile team and will focus on non-health referrals and community mobilisation including : helping the protection team in encouraging the use of school as community spaces  and identifying dropped out school children to get them back to school.   Responsibilities and tasks   1.      Identification of the most vulnerable people in need Join Outreach unit team during their field visits in order to understand the environment Organize visits in the different activities locations (IS, villages, schools) Conduct interviews with beneficiaries in order to identify vulnerable cases Assess the needs of each cases met   2.      Assessment and follow-up of beneficiaries to ensure social support Assess the needs of the beneficiaries and their families giving particular attention to protection concerns Listen with respect and attention to the beneficiaries Establish a file for each family to note the family situation, plan of intervention, follow up and updates Promote the development and empowerment of people by providing social support to facilitate integration, adaptation, and rehabilitation.   3.      Information and referral Ø Be knowledgeable of the services provided in the area of intervention by both INGOs, local organizations and institutions Ø Provide information on the services available to refugees and vulnerable host communities. Ø Identify the need of referral to specific services and provide required information and documentation Ø Follow up the referred cases, through the receiving organization and/or the beneficiary, until a clear answer is given or failure recorded   4.      Liaise with concerned internal and external actors Organize information meetings in concerned municipalities in order to explain the role of the Protection Social Worker to the key stakeholders of the villages Produce guidelines (how to conduct an interview, how to refer a social case…) for PU-AMI team Ensure the link between the different departments of PU-AMI to refer the cases depending on the needs (shelter, wash, health…) Refer the family to external actors (MOSA, NGOs…) when needed   5.      Reporting Provide weekly and monthly activity reports to the project manager   The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are not exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project needs.   QUALIFICATIONS   Mandatory requirements Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and good command of English (speaking, reading, writing) Education degree: Social Worker or equivalent diploma Work experience: 2 years, preferably with NGOs Computer skills: Good command of Word and Excel Other: -       Valid driving licence (1 year minimum) -       Good knowledge of the Lebanese social system and institutions -       Good knowledge of North Governorate, willing to travel daily all over the governorate Behavioural skills: -        Ability to communicate and to listen -        Good analytical skills -        Teamwork -        Good organizational skills -        Respect of professional confidentiality -        Patience   Assets   Interest: Work in humanitarian context and philosophy.   Transversal skills -          Strong motivation to help people in need -          Conflict resolution and diplomacy experience -          Understanding of the political situation in the area -          Reliability -          Ability to take initiative to deal with difficulties encountered in daily work -          Capacity to work in an multidisciplinary and multicultural team -          Ability to adapt or change priorities according to the changing situation within a mission or the organization itself -          Ability to analyse and suggest improvements of the activities -          Well organized and hard worker -          Able to manage stress and pressure -          Ability to remain neutral and put interest of beneficiary population first
