Protection Social Worker

Role and Responsibilities                  

The Social Worker will focus on referrals with other departments at base level and community mobilization including: helping the base teams in encouraging protection mainstreaming and identify child protection, gender based violence, legal and education cases to refer them to specialized services. The Social Worker will perform field visit with other departments at base level and will have extensive knowledge of the referral pathway in North Governorate.

Identification of the most vulnerable people in need

  • Join field teams from other departments (Shelter, Health, Protection, MEAL, Livelihoods) during their field visits in order to understand the environment;
  • Organize visits in the different activities locations (IS, villages);
  • Conduct interviews with beneficiaries in order to identify vulnerable cases;
  • Assess the needs of each cases met.

 

Assessment and follow-up of beneficiaries to ensure social support

  • Assess the needs of the beneficiaries and their families giving particular attention to protection concerns;
  • Listen with respect and attention to the beneficiaries;
  • Establish a file for each family to note the family situation, plan of intervention, follow up and updates;
  • Promote the development and empowerment of people by providing social support to facilitate integration, adaptation, and rehabilitation;
  • Provide insight to Emergency Cash Assistance team on protection situation during ECA cases review.

 

Information and referral

  • Be knowledgeable of the services provided in the area of intervention by both INGOs, local organizations and institutions;
  • Provide information on the services available to refugees and vulnerable host communities;
  • Identify the need of referral to specific services and provide required information and documentation;
  • Follow up the referred cases with referral clerk weekly, through the receiving organization and/or the beneficiary, until a clear answer is given or failure recorded;
  • Attend Protection related working groups and provide updates of main trends to base managers.

 

Liaise with concerned internal and external actors

  • Organize information meetings in concerned municipalities in order to explain the role of the Protection Social Worker to the key stakeholders of the villages;
  • Produce guidelines (how to conduct an interview, how to refer a social case…) for PU-AMI team and ensure protection mainstreaming in activities implemented by other teams at base level through the provision of protection trainings;
  • Ensure the link between the different departments of PU-AMI to refer the cases depending on the needs (shelter, wash, health, etc...);
  • Refer the family to external actors (MOSA, NGOs, etc…) when needed.

 

Reporting

  • Provide weekly and monthly activity reports to the project manager.
