Managing Editor

The Public Source is seeking a Beirut-based managing editor to join us on a full-time basis starting in early 2023.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and creative thinker — committed to quality public interest journalism — with at least five years of experience as a journalist and/or editor.

Responsibilities

The managing editor works closely with the editor in chief and in collaboration with the rest of the team to help:

  • Lead the development of the publication's editorial vision, mission, and long-term strategic planningSet its tone, policies, and editorial direction
  • Refine its editorial strategy, procedures, and editorial production workflows
  • Commission, edit, and contribute articles
  • Recruit, train, and nurture journalists and other media workers
  • Develop and implement communications and other strategies
  • Diversify the publication's revenue streams and manage donor relations
  • Represent The Public Source whenever necessary (interviews with the press, conferences, speaking engagements, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Language & Editing Skills – A superb command of either the English or Arabic language
  • Leadership Skills – The ability to inspire and motivate others, not supervise and micromanage
  • Communication Skills – Respectful, timely, and thoughtful communication in person and online
  • Organizational & Time Management Skills – You can manage yourself and our shared workload efficiently and effectively
