Mental health is a vital part of a person’s overall health and affects how we feel, think, and behave. It is also closely linked with physical health. Mental health is not just the absence of distress or illness, but also includes a sense of well-being and feeling good about oneself, maintaining supportive relationships, and feeling that one can be meaningfully productive in the community while being able to cope with the typical stresses in life. Mental health and mental health conditions exist on a continuum that ranges from mental well-being to illness, and most people move up and down this continuum as they go through life and have various positive or adverse experiences.
To fill these gaps and to create a link between the community and the services in the areas, RI is working on improving access to MH services, raising awareness sessions, and strengthening the community’s resilience.
RI will train the Community Health Workers (CHWs) on PM+ for adults with depression, anxiety, or stress who live in communities affected by adversity. Aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy have been changed to make them feasible in communities that do not have enough MH specialists. To ensure maximum use, the intervention is developed in a way that can help people with depression, anxiety and stress, whether or not exposure to adversity has caused these problems. It can be applied to improve aspects of mental health and psychosocial well-being no matter how severe people’s problems are.
For the reasons set out above, RI is now seeking trainers on PM+ to train 17 CHWs. Following the training, the trainer should ensure that the CHWs are applying the training in the field (it could be through field visits or discussions)
