Health and Nutrition Officer _Bekaa

Community Health Workers (CHWs) related tasks

  • Conduct daily field visits in order to identify CHWs who are willing to engage in the project. When identifying the CHWs, special attention should be directed towards the behavioural competencies and their experience in approaching vulnerable communities;
  • Follow up and supervise the daily work and achievements of the CHWs by collecting their weekly reports in an effective and efficient manner; the job holder must ensure that the behavioural and technical competencies of the CHWs as demonstrated on the field with the beneficiaries are up to the expectation of Relief International and in alignment with RI’s code of conduct;
  • Create a link between the CHWs and RI’s supported health facilities to ensure that vulnerable families, sick children, pregnant women, etc are receiving the appropriate care at RI’s supported PHCs.
  • Build the capacity of the CHWs for active participation and control of communicable diseases, safe identification and referrals of GBV survivors and Mental Health illnesses, and malnutrition in their communities;
  • Ensure that the CHWs demonstrate a high level of professionalism while working or coordinating with beneficiaries, their family members, and any internal or external party; any incident or work-related conflict should be immediately reported by the CHWs to the CHW Supervisor first then the Program Coordinator;
  • Ensure that the CHWs demonstrate a high level of cultural sensitivity, professionalism, politeness and objectivity when dealing with the beneficiaries under all circumstances;

Malnutrition program related tasks:

  • Assist in selecting the PHCs for partnership and assist in processing the Sub-Grant Agreement (SGA) with each PHC and ensure that articles of SGA are followed by all parties throughout the project;
  • Regularly visit PHC to ensure that proper implementation of the comprehensive package of PHC services including nutrition screening and follow up;
  • Ensure that necessary technical capacity building is provided to the PHC staff for all the PHC packages including screening and follow up on referred MAM/SAM cases;
  • Monitor the referred MAM/SAM patients after the PHC consultation to ensure that family/caregiver of malnourished CU5 is appropriately following up PHC recommendation,
  • Train and mentor the program staff and the community health workers through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on the job trainings;
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance to the lactation specialists, follow up on their consultations with the referred PLW and coordinate their visits to the selected PHCs and home visits;
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance to the Community Health Worker Supervisor, monitor the implementation of the community health component and follow up on the peer to peer sessions;
  • Ensure timely submission of project reports as requested by the Health Program Coordinator;

Attend the IYCF committee and Nutrition sector meetings.

Staff Care (for Directors/Managers/Coordinator/Supervisors)

  • Review Staff Care issues with the direct reports on a regular basis; continuously monitor individual staff members’ capacity for self-care; and take adequate actions to ensure that staff well-being measures are in place and in alignment with the RI’s policies. Ensure an adequate attendance and participation in all Staff Care trainings as requested by the Organization and Country office.
